Are recent Ford Tauruses decent? Alternatives?

Do you need 4 doors? If not, I strongly advise a 2003 Toyota Solara SLE V6. Last year of the previous body style. Closer to a Lexus than a Camry in terms of build quality and finish.

I still own a '99. I had to get a 4 door car (kids), but I wont part with mine. It's the same size as my 4 door sedan, and after 11 years still looks and runs great, and has all the options. One of the best cars Toyota ever made. They kinda messed them up with the 04 redesign.

My wife has a Ford 500 I think it's the same as Taurus. Been reliable and held together 40,000 mi now. I don't like center consols hitting my knee but that seems to be the way of things nowadays..hence why I drive towncar.

I'll run it past her. She wants 4 doors but maybe I can convince her since most (all?) Solaras have leather seats and a climate control systems. More gadgets = more better in terms of convincing her it's a car she'd want to drive.

You probably already know this, but with your budget that stuff is costing you a lot of miles/age over something more modest. And you have a modest budget. Plus it's just more stuff to go wrong.

Just saying...

I'll second that. The 2002 vehicle I just bought has navigation, heated seats, and power everything. Even the side mirrors tilt down when backing up to help with parallel parking. While it is nice, I'd honestly be happier if everything was all manual and the drivetrain was the only thing I really needed to worry about...cause that is what I bought it for. I'm not complaining...but as cars age, all that "tech" becomes significantly less appealing.
