Are psychic readings / speaking to the dead services real?

It really bugs me when that John Edward guy, who claims to get in touch with people's dead relatives on his show, gets airtime and interviews on legitimate news outlets. The guy is a con artist in the traditional sense, don't give him any more exposure than he needs.
