Are Private Messages really private?

EDIT: Changed topic to match discussion at end of thread.

So are private messages really private? I don't think so, and I think you are perfectly within your right to post a PM depending on the situation. Certain members think you could be sued over it....!

Get used to it, this forum doesn't just tolerate, but actually rewards people for immaturity & stupidity.

Unfortunately, there is no rule that I know of against immaturity and rudeness (if there were, 99% of ATOT would be permabanned).

True. Either way, I'd highly recommend NOT trading with this individual. See the thread in FS/FT for details. Apparantly he doesn't feel a seller is entitled to prompt payment upon receipt of items.

This is why I use ebay instead of the FS/T forum. The idea is good, but any time you introduce teenagers into something, it goes to sh!t. (no offense if you're a teenager, it's just that too many of them are worthless wastes of oxygen)

I think sp80 is just annoyed/ticked/PO cause people jumped on him for that $20.00 incident.

But now he has to question himself, was his rep worth that small $20.00 he proclaimed.

Both parties should of kept it via PM and now reps are damage and now this thread appears.

Hi Raider3

I agree that this is rude and name-calling etc, and support you in your complaint of such.

But I will mention for your consideration that as PM's are more private, it may be a breach of good taste etc to publicly publish one without the author's consent. Whereas forwarding it to a mod may have been more appropriate. Just my opinion/suggestion, hope no offense taken for my remarks.

Have a great day!

I hate how people think that just because the messages are Private Messages, that the title alone gives them the honor of not being posted. If some dipshit feels like they need to send me a PM that I don't want, I own that message and can do whatever the hell I want with it. If the sender doesn't want it posted, then don't fvckin send it. End of story.

Alright, so I'm a bit of a whiner about the PM. But why exactly are PM's private? If I send you a PM, why should I expect that you won't potentially make it public?

Yes, I understand what PM stands for. How does that mean I'm not allowed under any circumstances to post a PM?

you're starting to catch on . . . :)

you can post it with the permission of the sender . . . that . . . or

. . . you can risk Mod's Wrath

:D

just delete the damn thing and check the 'ignore user' option . . . then you won't be tempted to publically post it OR respond.

Where does it say I can't post a PM without that user's permission?

Exactly, if it's in your PM bin then it's fair game. Hell if the mods gave a sh1t about the PM's being private, then they wouldn't go snoping in peoples PMs.
