Are post offices open on New Year's?

I need to mail out an application that has to have January 1 or earlier postmark. Are there at least some post offices open on NYD, like the central post office? If not, I'll have to bump up the priority of this app and mail it out on Saturday 12/30 ...

Edit: These are college applications. I haven't done this particular application and it's the only one I have to mail out. The rest are online submission.

Haha I am doing my apps, I promise!

I just have to take breaks in between. Writing 5 responses for one common app supplement sure takes a lot out of you...
