when i go work clothes shopping with my bf, i keep telling him NOT to buy pleated pants, with my main defense is that it can add inches around the waist, but being that he's rail thin he doesn't care.

then i tell him they're passe and he's like "who the hell is looking at my pants?!"

i tell him fine fine, buy the pleated pants when plain front will never make you look like an idiot.

Thats one problem I have had is finding suits with reg. flat front pants. Some suit places are catching up, but most are still very slow and not watching what NORMAL people wear.

I don't usually notice a girl's rack, but I bet you do. Women are looking, if you don't care how you look, then you don't have a problem, but if you do care if you look nice to women...

Fashion death = pleated khakis with a blue long sleeve shirt

What's worst than pleated pants are TAPERED pants. They just make you look downright retarded. Some come clean guys, take a look in the closet and get rid of any pants that are tapered. In case you don't know what i'm talking about, tapered means the pants are slimmer at the ankles.

I'm in a class right now with several other men and all have pleated pants on right now.

[edit] Wait, one guy does not. But he is wearing khaki colored jeans.

I have an athletic figure, Broad shoulders, flat stomach, etc... So I wear 2 button suits (athletic cut coat) with flat front pants.
I don?t know why people think pleated pants, oversized jackets, etc? look good. If you are trying to hide the fact you are fat or really skinny, its not working. So buy a suit that fits.

Currently pleats on guys is out of fashion. Wait a couple of years and they will be in fashion, wait a couple of more and they'll be out of fashion. I personally don't care and wear whatever is in my closet.

Pleats on girls pants seem to be getting pretty popular at the moment.

Just say no to pleats!!!!!!

Your wife is correct!

Men + Pleated Pants = snicker and don't look any further.
:)

If I understand what people are saying, there was a time when pleated pants were "right" and looked good, but not any more. What is it that causes something inanimate to change from looking good to not looking good?

It's one thing to say you don't like a certain style. Hey, if you don't like it, you don't like it. But how a particular style of clothes can look good at one point in time, and somehow change to looking bad, I don't understand. It looks exactly the same as it always did.

Look at pictures from the 1980s - legwarmers, banana clips, etc. Those clothes looked good to most people at the time. Now they look like crap. Our personalities change over time, thus what we like changes over time.

of course leg warmers and banana clips would go out of style. those were "major" accessories. but something as insignificant as pleats?

i think: women and money drive the "fashion" industry. women frequently change their mind, which leads to more clothes needing to be purchased, which leads to more money.

there's nothing wrong with pleated pants. they are not a fashion disaster from the past. in fact, it was only a couple years ago that pleated pants were considered fashionable and unpleated were considered "old".

At any rate, single or double pleats are just fine as long as it's done tastefully and you look good in it. I just bought some Hugo Boss suits recently and the trousers are pleated.

They are OK to wear to work. Maybe not for clubbing, going out, although if you are in good shape, you can pull it off. I would certainly not donate pants just because they are pleated. Just buy flat front pants next time.

"Reel it in there Queer Eye." --Dr. Cox, Scrubs ;)

Pleats are fine. Maybe YOU look stupid wearing pleats, but chances are you look stupid anyways. And who really cares anyways? Someone mentioned attracting women. Great call there, Ace. How pathetic is it that your chances with women hinge on minor fashion differences in your pants...uh, no pun intended.

Are pleated pants the ones with creases in the front? if they are, I can't stand them! I have one really ugly pair of pants that have a permenant crease in the front.
