Depends. If they are in the right lane, fine.

If they are in the middle/left lane they are fucking dickheads that deserve to be slaughtered in order to try to maintain median IQ levels.

I believe that's obstructing the flow of traffic and is most definitely reason to be ticketed, they should have pulled over to let people pass before it reaches 7 cars imo (assuming 1 lane highway)

I know people who do this intentionally to be 'safe'. I've questioned them when a ride with them, and their response is "I'm going within the speed limit, so it's legal, so I'm not doing anything wrong". I've suggested that the logic they are using is flawed - after all it's not illegal for me to tell them that their wife uses a dildo the size of California because they can't satisfy her anymore. It may be rude of me. Perhaps uncalled for. But not illegal. That doesn't seem to pierce their veil of self-enforced stupidity.

So I have to say fucking assholes, because they know what they are doing and just don't care.

Yes, but much like people that pull into gas stations specifically to exit (in order to avoid the red light) should also be ticketed. The problem is simply police officers don't ticket this offense. Until officers are forced to ticket for any violation they see they will never do it.

And in this case, it's often hard to find the 'leader' or person that originated the traffic.

Most of the time they wouldn't, but if they've got 15+ cars trailing behind them their getting booked, if they actually had 30 people behind him i think they'd be calling for an ambulance

I'd say yes, unless the conditions are bad, then it's everyone else that's an asshole. People need to learn to slow the F down if it's a storm or otherwise bad weather. the only reason the south gets so many pileups over a few cm of snow is because it's white out conditions and people still insist driving highway speed when you can't react fast enough to what's in front of you.

But yes, in normal circumstances those people going to slow are assholes. That, and the people who try to turn left in a place where you practically have no chance, because they hold up lot of traffic too. Unless there's a left turn lane, then I'll give them a pass. For places that don't have a turning lane, I really think there should be a law that limits how long you can wait - or just forbid left turns altogether. Ex: 1 minute. Same with an intersection, if you're trying to turn left, you have 1 minute, if you can't, you should have to go straight. This would be hard to enforce though.

Speed limit and safe speed are 2 different things.
Goes both ways too. The street my mother's on is posted 25mph, but you're a fuckin' asshole if you go that fast. The road's tight, with people parked on both sides, blind turns, and a lot of young kids around. 15mph is appropriate.

What the law here considers a safe speed is mostly pedestrians, if you have a 2 lane street and no one walking around etc etc, then you can get away with higher speeds. Knowing that law if pulled over can also get you out of a ticket. Just say you know the law, you saw that it was safe to do that speed and it can get you out of being ticketed.

People here think the school zone sign means "drag race strip". I see people doing like 60-70 in school zones when the limit is suppose to be 40. I admit, I often do 50 if there's no kids around and it's off hours because 40 just feels so slow, but what gets me is that even at that speed, people will be tailgating me.

What's interesting is speed perception when on a bike vs in a car though. Doing 40 on a bike feels like you are on the verge of breaking the sound barrier, doing 40 in a car feels like you're walking.

If I can drive faster on local roads than slow folks on the highway then they deserve to die in a fiery crash.

OP referring to 30+ cars makes me think this poll refers to highway situations rather than in town ones. Given that assumption, the poll is broken/flawed, as there is no 'all of the above' option.

That's the problem, if everyone is driving slow, you have nowhere to pass.

I recently moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and everyone drives like they are the only ones on the road. Going the speed limit in every lane, not yielding to faster traffic behind them. It drives me nuts.

I understand driving frustrations. I've gotten frustrated with other drivers running red lights or throwing beer bottles out their window, etc.

My feeling though is that if someone is so good at driving fast that they can give lessons and criticism they should be able to figure out a little traffic congestion without getting upset.

They should DIAF. If you can't drive at least close to the speed limit then GTFO the damn road.

And poll needs an "all of the above" option.

Indeed. In Michigan it's a impeding traffic ticket... same ticket you get when they reduce your speeding to a no point impeding traffic offense. Show us the money...

If they aren't confident enough in their driving skills that they don't believe that they can safely drive the speed limit under normal conditions then they need to turn in their drivers license.

On a main highway, 8 to 10MPH over is usually good and will keep pace with most of the traffic. But in local towns, I stay within 5MPH of the speed limit and around schools, when the school speed limit sign is lit, I stay right at or just under the school speed zone limit. A lot of small towns are picky about local speeds, so I am very careful when in them. Don't need anything on my license.

School zones are one place that I don't exceed the speed limit, the fines, at least around here, are insane.

The fines are higher in most states for school zone speed violations and in some cases, higher points on your driver license. I also would not be surprised at higher insurance premiums for speeding in a school zone, as opposed to a normal type speeding ticket. Same for getting caught speeding in a construction zone.
