Are people that cold call you about elections exempt from do not call list?

(even though this is about elections, it's not really P&N... but move if you feel it is)

I feel like after voting in the last election I've signed up for some sort of spam. I keep getting calls from god knows who asking if they can "count on my vote".

I'm on the do-not-call list... is there anything else I can do to stop this?

Tell them to fuck off and stop calling or you will vote against them for harrassment. It sucks you have to do it for each and every damn candidate, but, they usually get the hint.

That's what I tell them (not the fuck off part, but the voting against them part). I pretty much get a "sorry to hear that" and then they go about their day.

Plus I've run out of people to vote against, they've all called at some point. Guess I'm staying home then

fucking fuck faces

I believe they are. Political stuff is exempt, donation stuff is exempt, and I think anything overseas is also exempt. So basically a good portion of calls are.

Not sure how it works for cells though, it's rare that you get telemarketing calls on cells, it's always on land lines. Cell networks tend to use newer switching technology so not sure if maybe they block all the known telemarketers by default or something? I did forget to renew Whois privacy on one of my domains once though and my cell was basically lit up with "incoming call" non stop. Was brutal. It took me a few hours to figure out what was going on but based on the voice mails (mostly network solutions begging me to switch to them) I realized it was whois related. It took a couple days for the calls to stop, my cell was basically unusable for that time period as the only way to make it stop was to put it in airplane mode.

If I could eradicate 3 things from this earth it would be politics, religion, and the constant bombardment of noise from landscapers.

Quick, someone invent the silent mower.

Every fricken homeowner here uses a landscaper with commercial grade power mowers AND blowers producing loud noise heard from 5 houses down. After 1 is done, another comes along less than 30 minutes later. We can hear the ones on the street behind us and 5 houses down there too, despite having all the Andersen 400 series windows closed. This goes on all week.

So F these lazy-ass religious political landscaper-hiring neighbors. And the politicians who won't ban them because they're too privileged to do the lawn themselves.

These are great too.

Oh I hear ya. I dont have THAT issue, but my neighbors all mow every 2-3 days, it is annoying.

Sounds like a HOA issue. :p If you have a full time job, the only way to prevent being cited is to hire professionals and have the lawn cut every day so it remains the approved length.

I had eight calls to my land line today. One was the wife checking in on me. Two were political robocalls. The other five never connected after the phone rang and I picked up saying, "Hello." This is about twice the number of daily calls, but usually I get 3-5 robocalls a day.

We have a VoIP land line through Comcast and use Nomorobo. It is free and blocks about 90% of the nuisance calls. As the number of nuisance calls on my cell phone has been rising lately, I'm thinking about paying the $2/month for Nomorobo to it too.

Anyone keep having robocalls about your credit card bills from xxx-xxx-4592? This is what I've seen from the majority of the calls the last few months. And no way to filter them.

Because of the limits to FTC’s authority, the Registry does not apply to political calls or calls from non-profits and charities (but the Registry does cover telemarketers calling on behalf of charities). Also, calls from legitimate “survey” organizations are not covered because they are not offering to sell anything to consumers. Finally, calls are permitted from companies with which you have done or sought to do business. Specifically, a company can call you up to 18 months after you last did business with it.

Like me, you should be informed to know that in today's technology climate, the do not call list does nothing. It cannot keep up nor does it have authority and resources to block callers coming from rest of the world (i.e. india & africa).

The best bet is to block the number on your actual smartphone. They have so many spoofers and itll take time but after adding about 50-80 numbers after every spam, they stopped a ton.

I get about 1 a week at most from 5-10
