Most people are ignorant of the technological details that make up a computer, just as most computer "enthusiasts" are ignorant about other subjects.

Many examples of these abound in ATOT ;)

I remember when one of my friend's dad wanted to buy a new monitor. The reason? So the graphics on his games would improve and look better.

How the heck can a program get away with something like this unless people are incredibly stupid when it come to computers?

This wasn't the only dumb thing either. They pretty well butchered computer terminology too. It could have been a borderline comedy.

Wow. You really have no idea how much you sound like a virgin.

I was watching a show on TLC ( I think) about a guy trying to get more info on Area 51. Well, the FBI wasn't too happy about and raided his home. They took his computer and his monitor. Yeah, I'm sure there are a ton of secret information in a monitor. People are just ignorant when it comes to computers.

Actually, they are correct. Back in the day when video cards only had like 1, 2, 4MB of frame buffer memory, more memory does indeed translate into higher resolutions and colour depths.

So all you whiny babies are either too young to remember plain old CGA, EGA, VGA cards or are just spoiled brats who need to have 200FPS with your SLI GPUs.

People are too quick to call others ignorant or stupid. Probably has to something to do with over-inflated egos.

I've still got a 512kb video card sitting in a drawer around here. That cannot even achieve 640x480x16bit

Yes :(

They're dumber than that.

It's like the infinite improbability drive... if we could somehow harness people's infinite stupidity, we could do something...

... something EXTREMELY stupid.

that idea is so smart that it's RETARDED!

I think that if many of those you label as stupid really gave a sh!t they'd know.

OK, I really have to respond to all those few truly stupid people who responded to this thread. Hopefully you're not too stupid to know who you are.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY !!!!!!!

My point was not that people are computer illiterate, this goes without saying, but rather that a professionally produced television program on a major network would say such a thing.

Anandtech, has always been cursed with profoundly stupid individuals. Something about this place attracts them.

It's not as stupid as you are making it out to be. Although what he said does seem somewhat silly, he's essentially saying that with more memory (and thus likely having a more powerful card), you can increase the resolution and make the game look more sharp and detailed - or "more clear"...

I was going to say that too. Back in the day, a 1MB video card couldn't do 1024x768. The more memory, the higher the resolution, so technically he was correct.

So I guess they dumbed down the truth to the point that it's barely recognizable as the truth.

If you add rubber tires to your chariot you get a more comfortable ride.

Was it a history program or a tech program?

"This is the video card. The more memory the video card has, the clearer the image in the screen."

It's like saying the more bullet holes i put in you the more dead you are. It's true up to a certain amount, but after that you don't get any more dead.
At best the statement is so generalized and lack so many other factors that it doesn't make much sence, at worst it's simply not true.

Yeah, but we can still make fun of them. If they don't know that much, they shouldn't be putting out information to others...

An most important of all, remember this guy whenever you see a program about stuff you know nothing about. The guy running the show could easily be just as well "informed" as this guy.
