Now, I want to look decent when I go out, but pretending I'm rich when I am middle class by buying second hand suits is the most retarded thing in the world. This is even on MSN homepage.

No. If you can afford a Bentley I don't have a problem with it. The article gives you tip on pretending something you are not. It just shows people fascination with material goods.

Kids are expensive, and since most rich people just send theirs away to boarding school anyway, you could argue that the best thing for your Live Cheap, Look Rich lifestyle is not to have the little monsters in the first place.

*greeat*

sounds satirical to me.

Hmmm I don't think the idea is pretending you are something you aren't it has to do with getting more out of a dollar and also into upper society and the benefits that come with it.

I have not bought a second-hand suit, however, I know a lot who have especially with Palm Beach right next door. The used clothing market there is big as most women from the island wear things once, if ever. You have families flying in for the season, buying up all new clothing and then selling it off/donating it as they leave in 3-6 months.

There was a guy in my bank that had all Armani and other high end suits, he was a lower level worker and would get constantly asked questions as if he were a way higher up. The clothes do definitely make or break someone.

The best way to get ahead in life is to fit in with those who have already made it. In other words, you'll never get rich hanging out in the ghetto with other ghetto residents. Wanting to do better for yourself isn't all about materialism.

You can be idealistic and poo-poo "materialism" and "greed" all you want. However, I have never met anyone who didn't want to make more money and do better in life... even those who claim they are altruistic and decry "greed" at every chance.

"Since time immemorial and pre-industrial, 'greed' has been the accusation hurled at the rich by the concrete-bound illiterates who were unable to conceive of the source of wealth or of the motivation of those who produce it."

its a trap!

did you guys read the last suggestion?
if someone is stupid enough to follow this guide, then the world will (eventually) be rid of their kind!

kudos to MSN!

Actually, many of the suggestions are very wise. The last, while cynical and a bit funny, is logically sound. Kids are a huge expense, and can seriously kill any aspirations of getting ahead.
