I have a 24x/10x/40x

How can I tell what brand I have?

The sticker on the top of the drive looks kinda like the one on Lite-On drives.

PD's can be any of a number of different manufacturers including Lite-on, Mitsumi, and BTC.

You can find out any number of ways which one it is. If you have the patience, you can browse forums around the internet and compile a list of serial numbers and their corresponding brand. I can start you on this one, my serial number started with an AXXXX... and it was a BTC. It sucks.

You can open the box and look at the face plate. Then browse the internet for CDRW reviews (i.e. CDRInfo) and compare faceplates.

Or you can install it, and look in the Device Manager. Mine showed up as a BTC BCI2410.

I picked up a PD 16X at Staples recently, and it was indeed a Liteon LTR-16101. I don't think you can even call it a "re-badge", it was simply a Liteon without the name printed on the faceplate in a PD box. Nice drive.

Edit: The outside of the box said "Smartburn".
