Are onboard RADI controllers as good as an add-on card?

basically they are identical as far as performance

at least thats true unless you get one of the high end raid cards, but they will cost you several hundred $$$

onboard promise is the same as a pci promise fasttrack card... same with highpoint and AMI, the onboard is the same as an addin card

Is it completely the same. Can a motherboard with an onboard RAID card do RAID 0+1?

Is it as easy to set up a bootable partition?

Thanks.

its basically identical in all aspects, including setting it up

some motherboards have a "lite" version of raid, meaning it may only do raid0 or only raid 1 and 0.... its the same actual hardware that does 1, 0, 0+1 but part of it is disabled (probably so the mobo manufac can cut costs)

but any board you are interested in... just check the specs to be sure it supports the raid functions you want.
