Are older VIA USB drivers possibly faulty ?

I have the frustrating occurrence of the USB system ? within Win2K ? just die on me often enough to motivate this cry for help.

When sending info to a USB printer, of a photographic nature, rather than text, too often the usb hub lights go out and the printer cannot receive the info and a full rebooting is required.

I do not know if this is a function of the VIA USB drivers on the IWILL KK266 motherboard, or if Win 2K Service pack 2 is needed. I doubt it is the broadly used Epson drivers, as it happens on any of the USB printers.

(The General Purpose hub is driver version 5.0.2183.1 - likewise, same driver number for the MS Via driver)

Anyone have an inkling (pun) as to the USB driver situation ?

Basically, yes. Older USB drivers and hubs had a habit of simply losing the connection . . . even when in use. The newer ones are better, but it still happens now and then.

Thanks, actually it is a relief to be informed that this dropout is not a specific malfunction limited to myself.
In that I loose an entire full size photo print when this happens, and it only happens when printing photos ? probably due to the large quantity of data being streamed ? is there any mitigating factor that can alleviate this distress ?

In other words, are there newer USB drivers, or anything to look for on the hubs?

And if I made the dedicated photo printer usb cable go directly to the 2nd USB port in the computer box, rather than through the hub, is this likely to make a difference ?

The present hub I am using is a Newpoint 4 port expander.

Thanks, Jerry

Particularly of interest is the potential for fewer problems if one goes straight through to the printer and not through the USB hub ?
Also, actually, the potential for newer Via USB drivers?
