Are older sitcoms / tv easier to watch ?

I have been doing a lot of watching of older sitcoms and tv programs lately. When I say old I mean averaging 20 years old +. I have noticed that when I watch shows like Andy Griffith or leave it to beaver that I feel more relaxed even with the shows on in the background when I am doing something else it is almost like my stress level is lower.

Maybe I am getting old, 39 this year 🙂
It just seems that modern sitcoms, tv programs have a higher intensity where there always has to be something happening, high action, or in your face type of content with a laugh every second. Where the older stuff is more laid back, casual, easy to follow without being overly complex. Even the cartoons from years past are that way, simple plots, characters easy to understand vs the newer stuff with epic story lines, detailed characters and extensive dialog.

I'm glad Hulu exist as it has a lot of the older stuff, TVLand on tv is okay but they have only a few shows and are doing reality tv now 🙁

You don't even have to go that old. Even the simpsons and seinfeld from the 90's are still aired 10 times a day on fox because they're so easy to watch. You can sit down and watch without seeing any other episodes because they all stand alone. Laugh tracks let you know when things are supposed to be funny (for seinfeld). It's much more difficult to watch newer sitcoms like arrested development for a lot of people.

I can watch:

Cheers
Night Court
Golden Girls
Newhart
Frasier

all day long, just great shows.

I Love Lucy is still the best sitcom of all time and always feel better watching it. Also Seinfeld makes me feel better as well since it's the show about nothing and still manages to be one of the funniest sitcoms of all time.

The Addams Family is one of my all time favorite shows. I do tend to prefer the older sitcoms, but in fairness I don't watch much TV. I haven't had a TV in the house for more than 12 years. I hooked one up briefly for the 9/11 stuff, but after a week it went back to the basement, and hasn't been hooked up since.

I'll always <3 I Love Lucy, but by and large, most of them put me right to bed.

I'll take "modern" tv any day (and by modern, I mean relatively... like, 90's+)

I can watch Seinfeld all day long. Friends, OTOH.

*shrugs* I've always liked them both. Not enough to buy either of them on DVD, but if I'm clicking around on TV I'll usually watch it if either of them are on. They're very different types of shows though.

Friends is too female-ish for me to watch.

Weird, because that's the number one reason I couldn't stand Seinfeld - same laughter after every other line a character says. Not that other shows didn't have laugh tracks - it's just that it seemed a lot more obtrusive on Seinfeld.

70's shows were really bad with the laugh tracks. They seemed to take it to a whole different level :^D

But the females are quite good looking. Of all the 'chick shows' I think that one is the most well rounded w/ the humor and all.

Man, I wish they still showed reruns of Get Smart.

It's nice that Hogan's Heroes has been remastered in HD. Love that show. HDnet was showing it, now Universal HD is too.
