Are Oakland A's closing shop?

Nope, they are just restocking for the next few years. Getting good prospects is always favorable to losing your players outright and Beane figured he should make the deals while he could pick and choose what dleas he wanted. THey will be just fine. This next year might be tough tocontend for a playoff spot but when the kids hit the show they will back on top.

I think the A's konws their role when the Angels and Mariners are stocking up high priced players this year.

The Mariners will still suck. They have NO pitching and Beltre had ONE good season and Sexson is damaged goods. THe A's probably didnt want to trade Mulder, but you cant pass up that offer. They have soo much talent now and they are owed next to nothing. The A's will be in the playoffs by 2006.

the A's lose players every year, but they have always had the big 3...now.....

Zito, Harden, Blanton, Haren, and the kid they got for Hudson - not exactly an overwhelming starting 5 for the 05 season...though I think Harden has A+ stuff...hard to see them a playoff contender in 05, but if the kid pitchers come through, they will be back in 06 as a contender...
