Are naturalized citizen and born citizens different things?

I went for admission to a community college, to take a class during summer. I am a naturalized citizen. They are wanting to see my certificate of naturalization. I didn't really think I would have to ever show that, citzen is a citizen, and only my social security card was enough.

naturalized - you weren't born here, you took a test and became a citizen.

born - i was born in this country, so i am automatically a US citizen.

Has anyone other naturalized citizen here had to present their certificate for admission or related things? I thought I would be done with the admission today. The line was literally 50 people long. I got to get in line again tomorrow.

A social security card is not a valid form of identification (it is a document that qualifies eligibility for work, but only in conjunction with another form of identification such as a driver's license or passport).

A naturalized citizen can be stripped of their citizenship and deported.

yea and soon so will a born citizen..

Deported to where? Unlike naturalized citizen, they don't have a country of origin besides the US.

if you got a passport then show that, I never had to show my certificate.. i took my passport with me but i didnt show it, they took my word I was a US citizen.

My roommate this year was NOT a U.S. citizen but he applied for a Social Security number when he got here (he needed cell phone service) and quickly got one (in about 2 weeks).

A S.S. # is not proof of citizenship.

Only if you parents notified the U.S. embassy of your birth. You're in serious trouble if they did not and you have voted in any elections.
