Are music subscription services worth it?

Specifically, Yahoo! Music Unlimited. All the others (Rhapsody, URGE, etc.) are out of my price range, but Yahoo's $60/year ($5/month) is really attractive. I'm a student, which is why the others are out, but I use the computer a lot, and am always looking for more music. So does anyone here have any experience with them? Good idea? Bad idea? Thanks!

Well, normally I don't..*cough*bittorrent*cough*. But this would let me listen to any song I wanted, any time I wanted, which is why it's appealing.

at $5.99/month yahoo unlimited is a no brainer:p ( I have it and use it for a lot of music that I don't intend to keep....)

at $9.99/month yahoo togo is stil a great deal. (Going to signup ocne i get the equipment I need for it in the mail)

For the msot part, I stuck to used cds in the past, but the shipping fees killed it. I also like to use itunes for the price and the convenience, but for unquestioned thriftyness, I use yahoo music.

Yahoo Music is well worth the $60, but don't con yourself into subscribing by thinking it will save you money - I'm constantly discovering new stuff, & then buying the damned CD's.

It is occasionally a little buggy, but it's much improved vs when it was first launched (I've subscribed since the very beginning).

it's worth it since you click, serach, and lsiten...BT takes too long somtimes:(

Hoenstly, I use a combination of things. I am the kind of buy who If I can't get my hands on something quick to lsiten to it, I will "get it" to see if it is worth the wait. I usuallyl end up buying it if it is or deleting if it isn't.

Haha, I'm not too worried about it "making" me buy CD's..I've bought 6 in my entire life, and had one given to me. MP3's all the way. :)

that's the way I thought years ago...then the "fever" hit me:(

it's like radiohead...before lossless was prevalent? c'mon, in mp3 form listening tothem was depressing:p

For some artists you jsut need the full quality. Sure you can get flac or monkey or whatever on BT now, but that's jsut an example.

It seems like it should be a great deal. I don't really buy OR download music.

Think of it this way, do you buy at least 1 CD per month? If so, then the subscription service would really be saving you money.

Stereo? Hell I can tell the difference on my computer speakers, & they're nothing special (Altec Lansing ATP3's).

The sad truth is the quality of all of the mainstream purchase/subscription services leaves much to be desired. The only one that doesn't is allofmp3 (with available FLAC), but of course then you're frequently paying $8+ an album AND it's probably not even legal anyway. At that point you're better off finding the disc used.
