Discussion Are Multivitamins a waste of money?

Hi all,

According to that PHD guy in the video, the answer is yes. I heard many people say a multivitamin only gives you expensive urine.

What do you think?

Over the years, I've seen smart people say they are good to take, and I've seen smart people say they are pretty much a waste.

That said, I take one daily when I eat dinner, and my family doctor recommends I continue to do that during my every 6 month check ups.

It's easy to be cynical when you personally can't detect the benefits.

I don't have a lot of confidence that the sheer dosage of nutrients (in vitamins) is healthy long term. More isn't necessarily better. You can overdo. Just because no ill effects have been discerned up to certain dosage levels, doesn't mean there are no ill effects.

But I'm positive I've felt restoration and healing from taking vitamins. So I'd say halving the daily dosage of whatever you buy is good for health maintenance (it mitigates damages from overenthusiastic manufacturers who pile on ingredients). Granted, with certain vitamins you have to take high levels to notice the specific therapeutic benefit you're hoping for.

Also, I'm aware some vitamins are sold at far higher prices that they're worth, a real money drain.

So, yes, vitamins are usually a waste of some money - but NOT a total waste of money.
Your body will benefit.

It depends on your diet. If you accept that you eat a crap diet then vitamin supplements can help. Stay away from the mineral supplements that contain heavy metals.
