My roommate was thinking of possibly signing up as a member for the forums, but we split a cable modem with a hardware router. I know the the past people have been banned for having multiple accounts linking to the same ip address and i don't want to be banned because he wants to set up an account.

How does this work??

No problem. YGPM.

Have him sign up. If he ever causes a rukus, I am sure the MODs will come after you. :)

I believe that multiple (read: 2, 3 max) accounts can be permissible, but not if you're wanting to engage in trading on the FS/FT forum. (If that is the case, I would be very clear with everyone involved: traders, mods, etc. so that they now what's going on).

As John said, if your roommate starts making too much of a ruckus, be ready to accept any consequences.

As far as I know they are allowed. My roommate and I both post on these forums and we are sharing an IP. However, be really careful and hope that your roommate does not screw you over.

Isn't a breach of your service contract to share connection with someone? ;)

As long as your roommate is responsible and abides by the forum rules I'm sure that it's allowed.

My wife and I are both ATers who use the same IP (she has her PC, I have mine), so far no problems.

Of course she has under 30 posts and I have a few more than that.

Give or take a few million years and she'll catch up with you.

Good question, my son would like a subscription and we both hail from the same IP which is why I hadn't subscribed him already. As long as it's cool with the powers that be I'll let him sign up :)

I have always wondered what would happen if they noticed 100 people using the same IP. That is because my ENTIRE CAMPUS uses one IP# (24.97.95.113, go ahead & have fun with it, I don't care). I think they haven't noticed yet because I'm the only one who posts here (well I know of a few people with ~10 posts, but still).

What college do you go to, and how big is it?

We have about 800 students living on campus. We are using 6 T1 lines for the dorms & 1 T1 line for the academic buildings. Last year we only had the one T1 for EVERYTHING & man was that slow (.02k/s download times were not uncommon, and yes I know where I put the "."). It was actually slow enough to make most websites timeout before they loaded. Now it's MUCH nicer as I can get 500k/s downloads frequently (depending on the server). I imagine that since we have 7 T1 lines we actually have 7 IP#'s, but still I know that we use private IP#'s (mine is 10.2.31.199 for instance) & everything goes through 10.2.1.200 for internet traffic (or 10.1.1.186 for academic buildings).
