If you own an mp3 headunit, is it one of those things where you can never go back? I have a usable aftermarket headunit right now and I'm trying to decide whether to make the switch.

I would never go back. I'd sooner sell my car and drive a beater with an mp3-cd deck than go back to normal CDs.

I had am MP3 deck and I didn't see what was so special about it. I mean, the ability to play MP3s was neet and all, but it wasn't a feature that I used all the time. It only really came in handy on long trips.

I can't wait for the Omnfi's to finally be out. Even supports 802.11b so you can update the songs while the car is in the garage ;)

Yep, Omnfi is Rockford Fosgate's line (they are OEMing the SimpleFi design). Here is a link to Omnfimedia.

Where supposed to be out this month, now it looks like they slipped to 'Q3'. Which means sometime before September....

I'm too lazy to change out my CDs so I end up listening to same 15 songs over and over, I really need to get an Mp3 Deck so I can listen to the same hundred songs over and over.

That actually happened to me today, kept listening to the same CD over and over again cause I couldn't safely change the cd in the middle of my drive.

Yes.
I got bored easily with 16-18 songs cd's, toss them out after 3-4 days in the car.
After I got my Alpine, it gets better but still boring.
A cd only get about 130 192b songs. So that is still only a week worth.
I'm considering getting an AV cable for Alpine so I can connect my 10GB iPod to the car.
If I'm still bored then, nothing will help me. Except XM.

If you already have aux input on your hu, I'd just get an ipod instead of an mp3 hu. Less chance of theft, same cost, and you can use the ipod out of the car too

It's all relative.

The in-laws live 6 hours away which really makes having a mp3 headunit worthwhile. Besides, they pretty inexpensive nowadays even if you have a working solution on your hands. I'd sell the old unit and pony up for the new unless you think it's not worth the price of admission (taxes, install etc). Only you can make that call.

Yeah because I commute and cd's don't last long enough. I am actually putting an old computer in my car instead of buying an mp3 deck. It's going to be a bit cheaper, more fun, and I can add DVD and GPS functionality to it down the road.
