Are most new spark plugs properly gapped out of the box?

I have a new set of NGK's and I noticed that the gaps were perfect out of the box. Is this usual?

I've had most plug come out of the box with the right gaps. I've only had 2 or 3 that were off, and it wasn't by much.

Yep, that's pretty normal. I've used NGKs for several cars, and they were all gapped properly.

I changed my plugs a couple weeks ago, and one came out of the box with no gap. Yes, plugs are pre-gapped, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Having replaced literally thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Spark Plugs in my career as a Tech, I only use Bosch or N.G.K., these two brands cause the least amount of recalls and aggravation.

Never in your life install Champion, they are by a long shot the worst plug manufactured in the world.

Unless they were mishandled odds are good they are set right most of the time.

Depends on your engines specs.

Who would install without checking them anyway??

I agree Champions are trouble and had a 327 Chevy that LOVED Ford brand plugs (Autolites?)

do not assume they are. 80% still leave 2 out of 10 that are incorrect. check them enayway. takes all of 3 seconds. A cheap gapping tool can be had at most parts counters for $1.

Not to mention a public disservice... Appended -R to their recessed plugs and everybody thought it meant racing. :)

Bosch or NGK here too. Next time I put plugs into the 924S I'm going to try the Bosch Platinum +4's, I figure that they can't hurt and they don't cost much more than normal plugs (that and I only have 4 plugs to worry about).
