Are most computer people CHEAP I think so............

$10 can get me 3 Philly Cheese Steaks. $20 can get me a large Pizza and 3 Philly Cheesesteaks. Course I'm gonna bitch. I wouldn't call myself cheap....frugal is the term I prefer.

Mmmm....Philly Cheesesteaks.... 🙂

I guess I am the exception. I'll spend cash on stuff I want. When it comes to my computer stuff, I buy only the best.

Of course I'm cheap.

athlon 750 OC to whatever i can get
GF2 MX OC to whatever I can get
(sense a trend here)
I'm not cheap about food though. I'm a fairly picky eater.

Man, did you have to bring up philly cheesesteaks?? Now my mouth is watering!!
I used to be cheap but now that I've got money anything under $100 is no big deal to me.

That said, I'm trying to get a budget put together for the new year because I'm saving NADA.l

cheap is well, cheap. frugal is using everything you buy, and buying nothing you don't use. not cheap. although its easy to get the two confused. its about ordering the medium sized popcorn at the theatres even though the large is a quarter more because you can't eat a large.

$10 to $20 can really add up. Especially when our components are also depreciating... I just sent out a couple of emails trying to figure out where my rebate checks were. =)

Well there is a big difference in my eyes of everything. Going out to dinner and not leaving a tip for the waiter is cheap (granted the waiter did spill hot soup on you). Fighting for the best price on hardware is not cheap. You know hardware and what it costs. You like to bargin for hardware. Looking for a cheap price doesn't make you cheap. If you are in desperate need of something (including hardware) and you don't buy it because it costs 3 dollars more then u want to pay then you are probably cheap. I guess it all depends on the situation..... trailing... tired... too much to explain.... 😕

I think with the outrageous prices on some hardware, it pays more to shop around and try to find a good deal. Also, with the rapid progression in the computer industry, an upgraded piece of hardware is only considered fast for what seems to be a small amount of time (and is getting smaller yearly).

When the P300 was released, I thought to myself: who the heck needs a CPU that fast? Now, I have trouble using any machine that is slower than 800mhz (except for my G4 Macs - I never expect them to get faster than 500mhz).

The point is: it would be unwise to be financially care free since your top notch piece of hardware is going to be tomorrow's slow poke in less than a year. Unless, of course, you're making huge amounts of cash and are just itching to spend it on anything. Why not look for the best deal possible and not pay MSRP if you don't have to?

If I can save $10 to $20 on every component that goes into a computer, I can realize a savings of up to $200 dollars or more on building a system.
At that rate I can can afford to take friends out for Philly cheesesteak.
I'm not cheap, I'm smart.😉

I agree completely with you guys.. it's about being smart. Not spending more money on something that you can get for less, why do it? I hate spending full retail on any electronics because that stuff is marked up SO much. This I run into when I buy car audio, home audio, etc. Working at good guys taught me how much you can really save when you bargain w/ people and look for deals.

I remember that's one of the things I had to teach my ex gf, was cuz she didn't care about paying full price for anything.. when you can get things on sale, why do it??

Hah! It's the principle of it, not the actual amount. Why should CompUSA keep more of your money for the exact same item as Walmart? If you're going to just "give" away your money, make sure it goes to a vendor that deserves it. Somebody that offers better service or support for example.

You're right about one thing, though. Don't sweat the small stuff. Concentrate on saving the big bucks on the more expensive items and then worry about the lesser parts last.

And what do you think of people that save $5.00 on a printer at BestBuy, only to cough up $35.00 for a printer cable and $30 for extended warranty? Guess you can't call them "CHEAP", eh?

I dont think I am cheap, just a smart shopper who wants what the vendor promises when he promises it. $5-$10 dollars difference doesnt bother me too much but recently bought a cell phone battery for $19 when a lot of places were asking 60-70. Just dont rip me off like that.

Remember:

"The agony of poor quality lasts a lot longer than the thrill of a low price" (Paraphrased quote, cant rmember the exact wording but you get the idea)

call us "cheap," call us "thrifty," etc. etc. (does it make a difference?) why shouldn't you get the best deals for computer stuff? that's a must for people on low budgets (like me). being a smart shopper is good.

If you wanna call it cheap call it cheap. I decide what I want and try and get the best deal on it. If I do this while reading or watching TV (or even at work on lunch) It's no skin off my nose.

The way I look at it is if I have $50 for the kids sneakers and I can get a good deal on a better brand then it's worth it. Case in point after an hour looking around the net I found 2 pairs of "Vans" (I never heard of them) for the money I had to spend. He's happy, I'm happy and the wife is happy.

And as always this is just MHO
