I had American friends back in my city(Seoul). They used to dress as typical young American guys, however they, indeed, changed their style after some month. We used to go to places and they started to realize that they're way over under-dressed and ended up buying those tons of cloths. I feel bad for them now as I know they won't dare to wear those cloth in America. Anway, it was funny seeing them transforming into metrosexuals.

metrosexual is a dumb term.
it has nothing to do with either being "metropolitan" or ones sexua preference.
i dont understand why you would believe hese people are closeted homosexuals.

Like I said, Metrosexualism has so much to do with being "metropolitan".
Being in a big city with whole bunch of people is really different than being in a small city or a town.

They're just effeminate men. In today's society, where men staying around to raise their children is just about unheard of, it's no wonder boys are getting more girly and growing to be girly men.

Also, this is one of the reason why I'd never live in places such as.....a small town in Texas. Because I know I'd feel obiligated to wear those cowboy boots with tight-ass jeans and a big ass belt-buckle. I'd rather be a metrosexual than a cowboy.

What I?m saying is that metrosexual guy in New York and Texas is totally a different story.

Eh, I'm from a small town and I spend nearly every weekend in NYC. I don't dress any different, and I don't get any looks. I wouldn't call the way I dress metropolitan either. I do dress a little more stylish depending on the place im going, just like I would wear a tie to a job interview, sometimes its just appropriate to dress better, but on a regular basis I've never gotten wierd looks for wearing jeans and a button down shirt.

Then again, self-confidence is one of my stronger points so maybe I either don't notice people giving me looks or I think they're checking me out cause I'm such a sexy bitch.

Be glad you don't live in Louisiana. You should see the kind of sh!t we cajuns wear!

Just for example, while driving through hicksville I saw an old lady walking outside wearing what appeared to be one of those african mumu dresses except it was just the bottom part, a camo shirt, and a trucker hat. I wish I had my camera!

It's because you're only spending weekends there. If I go to Texas on every weekends, I'd, too, never care about the cowboy look. It also depends on what kind of places you go to. If you go to those supposed-to-be-high-class-fancy places everyday, then it'd be a different story. As you said, you do dress more stylish when going to some places, think about you living there and going those places all the time. Self-confidence is all good but it just doesn't work sometimes. No matter how much confidence you got, you wouldn't want to look like an lunatic just because you're un-stylish.

You would more than likely get strange looks in Texas if you walked around with skin tight wranglers, a pair of boots, a big ass belt buckle, and a cowboy hat on. Believe it or not people do dress somewhat normal down here.

The bottom line is...
If you see a metrosexual living in a big city with lots of money, it's quite natural for him to be a metrosexual. He's got the money, those designer-brand shopping centers are all around him, and people caring so much about the way one dresses, then it's just natural for him and it's a part of city life.
On the other hand, if you see a metrosexual in a small town, then it's more likely he's what HappyPuppy thinks he is.
If you see a metrosexual in Texas, RUN~.

Actually, Texas has it's pockets of "city life." We call it Austin. :)

I live Deep In The Heart of Texas (tm), and it isn't unusual to see people in full out cowboy regalia. However, these are the people who are generally over fourty - the rest of us are normal.

I would say yes. I think most are probably inherently heterosexual, but that doesn't mean that they aren't a prissy nancy boy, which they are. I find nothing quite as unmanly as a guy obsessed with the "fit" of some stupid shirt. Something I find amusing is that these guys are by definition engrossed in how they look, but most won't even take the more significant step of working out, which has a far further reaching way of improving appearance. Most of the meteros I see have the body of a little boy.

Somebody like ryan seacrest I'd like to put his legs up against something and kick his knees in.

It would make sense for an ugly person to think someone better dressed than them is automatically gay, girly or otherwise. Because it makes you, the ugly person, feel better about themself.

If you could find out tomorrow that by dressing better and looking a little better, you could get some insanely hot women who you've only seen as jpegs on your computer screen, then maybe you would want to dress a little better also. Or maybe you enjoy overalls and plaid shirts, if that is the case, more power to ya.

James Bond would have fallen under 'metrosexual'. He was concerned with grooming and the way he looked. Presentation.

James Bond has been concerned with grooming and looking good, but that's not what meteros do. They are straight guys who dress as gay guys, basically. James Bond was never into that. You can look well kept without looking like an ass monkey, which is what the meteros do, and there's the key distinction.

Huh? Dress as gay guys? Most _women_ think gay guys have good taste in clothes. They don't think they look like an ass monkey. I fail to see the distinction being made here.

They wear stickers on their backs? I don't think they'd be able to get into the clubs if they were that tacky. Metros just keep up with the fads for their locales. One week everyone might be wearing a certain type of shirt and the trend will die out by Friday morning. They all try to find out what the new trend is and buy the new shirt or whatever....it's a poor example, but I hope you get the point.

Aren't Metrosexuals basically the same type of guys that used to be called 'pretty boys'?

The pent up homophobic rage is strong in this thread.

Who the fvck cares how some one dresses? Maybe they are a homo, I don't know...but I'm certainly not going to spend all day getting red faced angry over something as stupid as this.

I think metrosexuals are more of a subset of pretty boys. I'd include Abercrombie & Fitch whores in with pretty boys, but they're not metrosexuals because their sense of style is stuck in high school.
