Are Mercedes really worth the money??

If you have the money what the hell would you rather have a toyota, please.

Sans the AMG models, I'd rather have the Lexus or Audi counterparts to their WHOLE lineup, hell, I'd even venture to say I'd take the Acura equivelent also. Mercedes is subpar when compared to ther competition - you can get a better car from many other manufacturers.

okay so here's the breakdown of all of the above models

Audi- pretty wack in general IMHO, except for quattro and turbo

Lexus- es models are wack, is300's are nice but they're basically civic's, gs's are pretty nice, ls's are pretty nice, sc430 is a joke (headroom waht?)

Acura- HAHAHAHAHAHAHA please, v6 fwd vehicles = no

BMW- 3 series are nice but a bit lacking in space (and their yuppie factor), 5series are the shiz, 6series have the biggest moonroof in the world (when i asked the guy he said "yeah it's a bit excessive"), 7 series i'm not too fond of, z4's are nice, z8's are nicer, m3/m5 is THE SHT, and i'd prefer a normal 6spd vs the SMG transmission (it doesn't shift smoothly at all, but evidently this is adjustable)

Mercedes- c classes are wack, S430's are wack, s500/s600's are nice, e55 amg is quite possibly my favorite 4 door car in the world, sl500's are slow as hell, sl55's are nice, clk's above 430 are nice, slk's are worthless

hell let's go on

Porsche - 911turbo's are where the fun's at 😉 But Carrera 4/Boxter S aren't bad either. I hate the boxter with a passion. And really, putting the key in on the LEFT side? what a pain in the arse

Ferrari - Hate the grated shifter. Hate the paddle shifting too; lifting a knob and then pulling it back to go into reverse? weak. but the engine sounds oh so beautiful

Give the man a cigar!

Some comments:

BMW - Ever since Chris Bangle got ahold of the reins of BMW design, he's managed to make all the cars look fatter and perform worse. iDrive, found on all new body styles (the 5er, 6er, and 7er) is the biggest pain in the ass since... well, ever. There's a reason radios have volume knobs: So you don't have to use a mouse/rocker switch/joystick/footpedal to adjust the volume. In a recent Road and Track roundup, the new 530i placed 6th out of the 7 cars tested. Sixth!!! A BMW!!!

As for the sunroof, have you ever seen a picture of the "Skyroof" (IIRC) option in the M-B ML430? Now that's a big sunroof!

Porsche - The ignition is on the left so you can start the car and put it into gear at the same time, apparantly a hold-over from racing days. (Whatever happened to, "Gentlemen, start your engines"?)

i'd say your opinions are quite similar to mine on these cars.

cheers

Ummm... pardon me for not being up on the latest slang... being old and all...

but is wack a good thing or bad?

thanks.
🙂

Guy that works at the dealership says they are a pain in the ass to fix as well. They don't sell a ton of them, so their mechanics are inexperienced and they can't afford to keep a lot of parts on hand for the few number of Mercedes on the roads around here.

On another note, by dad and his wife bought a SL 32 AMG RennTECH about 2 weeks ago. Bad ass car. Fast ++

Its worth it if you want the image, otherwise the quality and reliability aint that much better than a Lexus.
Then again there are tons of millionaires that drives average family cars like a camry or an accord.

It's all within the prestige, and whether if you wanna show it or not.

Quality is definitely below Lexus. Where do you get the notion that reliability and quality is better than the Lex ?

MB quality and reliablity is nowhere near the quality of lexus, they're far from "ain't much better". Lexus is the benchmark for reliability in the automotive industry, MB is nothing special.

Sheesh, it is hard to keep up with all you young whiper snappers and your lingo!
😉

WTF is a whipper snapper? 😕 😕 😕

😉

"Though "whippersnapper" originally referred to a young man with no visible ambition, the term has changed somewhat over the years, and today is more likely to be applied to a youngster with an excess of both ambition and impertinence. "

😉

I'd rather have a Jaguar than a MB. It just doesn;t feel like your getting your moneys worth when you buy a MB. To me anyway.
