Are men better at directions, remembering drives, and what not

Of evolution... men would go out and hunt back in the day and have to remember how to get back and forth without the use of gps, maps, etc... just a compass and what not... but women did not, thusly men evolved to have a better sense of direction, better navigating skills, etc...

true?

It is because the penis acts as a compass, always pointing north.

At least mine does.

Hey, I am great with never getting lost like that. You have just provided me additional proof that I am male. Other than my penis. And dislike of Brad Pitt.

Men don't need directions... the only reason we get lost is because of that distracting banshee sitting in the passenger seat that keeps screeching at us to ask for directions. 😛

What does any of that stuff have to do with evolution?

Those men who couldn't innately find their way back to the cave died off. Ergo, evolution. 😛

Well if you think about the roles of men and women in our hunter gatherer days, men that were good at spatial relations, estimating speeds and distances etc would likely be better hunters than those lacking those skills. By the same token women dealing with infants that are good at empathy and communication skills would likely be more successful at raising children to pass on those traits. All I know is that for some reason it is not PC to talk about any biological difference to explain the differences between men and women's seeming different abilities and interests, just ask Larry Summers.

I have horrible visual memory (if my brain had a video card it would be only 16MB) and suck at remembering directions.
I can use a map fine, but can't remember directions to get to different places too well.
Good thing GPS and maps exist 🙂

Delicious fun happens, that's what.

...

Anyway, in all honesty I think EQ made me awesome at directions. Drawing all those maps and imagining the zones in my head as a kid really makes it easy to imagine towns in my head from an aerial view now.

This is correct. Women only had to get around in the cave and prepare for her man. Then fire was discovered and things changed. 😛

Silly women and their big, well-used caves.

many many more generations of using and developing that part of brain

some real darwin consequences back in the day if lacking those skills for men (not for women tho)

I could swear I've seen this thread before... talk about deja vu.

you have been here long enough for this phenomena to happen. all threads will be repeated over and over at periodic lengths of time, rinse, repeat.

My wife is hands down better at having a "sense" of where we are. On the other hand, I am much better at "connecting the dots". Once I get an idea of a city layout and main streets...I seem to know exactly where we are all the time. But on those time where both of us are completely clueless (like in a foreign country), her intuition/sense of direction is MUCH better than mine.
