No.

I sometimes go through periods when I lurk for whatever reason. Actually I was a member here for quite a while before I really started posting much (comically enough, I was mostly getting into political arguments on the 3dfx forums in those days).

A lot of times, when I get to the thread, everything I had to say is already said and done.
So no reason to nef.

What makes them an asshole?

Trollish behavior might get one that moniker, but just standing back and reading without having anything worthwhile to say and not belching out some inane response just for the purpose of responding can't be looked down on.

Sometimes I think the thing that defines my maturity more so than any other attribute, is my ability to just keep my mouth shut. In my younger days this is not a quality I seemed to possess.

Many people will lurk before becoming members.

They may feel uncomfortable in participating because of all the inflated egos that roam around here.

!) It can easily cut back on the amount of NEFfing that goes on here.

2) It can allow them to understand the policies by waiting for existing fools to show themselves off.

3) Lurkers when they become active may not make as many mistakes regarding "wrong forums", "Enable Profiles", "No Coupon Codes", "Repost", YAGT, understanding when /what defines NSFW links, etc"

3) Many lurkers may also avoid getting vacations because they have a little more respect for the system.

/end rant

Dare I correct the Mod's spelling? :p Nothing wrong with lurkers... but let's not make them out to be saints or nuthin. I've spent some extended time lurking here... I sure as hell ain't no saint.

I mostly lurk. Not much reason to quote the 10 other people who have all quoted the previous quoter just to add "agreed". Although I did do that once this week. If I find a topic that I can relate to and maybe have a different take on it, I'll post. No need to quote everyone else with "agreed" all the time, or tell people their topic sucks. Sometimes I wonder why more people don't stop trolling so much and let everyone else THINK they are idiots.

The topic of the lurker reminds me of a song:

Day after day alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around...

He never listens to them,
He knows that they are the fools
They don't like him,
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

no they aren't - how do you suppose many become members? By lurking, then wanting to chime in so they register, and then become addicted to ATOT :D

I am a lurker and proud of it. I am starting to post more now because up until a while ago my posts used to kill threads :(

ng, lurkers refer to people who are not members. To the OP, don't forget that lurkers have one thing you don't have: an obsession :D Once you register, you never go back.

Are you kidding? ATOT is one gigantic kingdom of assholes anyway, and, you might just be the asshole who wears the crown.
