Standard res for 17" LCD TVs from philip outlet is 800x600. But for use as a regular monitor, they can go higher

It is the case that LCD TVs generally have pathetic resolution, per inch, compared to conventional LCDs. Whether or not this matters to you depends on what you plan to do. Just be sure to check the specs. There is a reason why 32 inch LCD TVs are notably cheaper than 30 inch LCDs.

I'd say it's reasonable as anything >30" isn't meant to be viewed from 10 inches away. I think 1920x1080 for a 37" display isn't "pathetic."

But 15" LCD TVs are more expensive than 15" LCD monitors.
