Are LCD Monitors easier on the eyes?

I'm going to replace my 17 inch fishbowl in the near future and was wondering if the LCD monitors are easier on the eyes compared to CRT monitors. In my new job, I will use the computer a lot more and that's why it's a concern for me. So, for those who have had LCD monitors for a little while, do they reduce eye strain/fatique/etc for you? Thanks for any advice.

Not especially, LCD monitors tend to have inconsistent lighting depending on viewing angle, which becomes a pain after a while. I would just buy a nice flat 17 inch or something

you know what helps? I just put a flourecent light in my room here. I put one of the natural sunlight blugs in it. For some reason, it is much lees training on the eyes to look at the monitor.

The other thing is refresh rate. Use the highest refresh rate possible, it helps a lot.....

I haven't noticed them being any easier or worse. I have a 19" CRT myself, and I just built my parents a computer with a nice bright 15" Samsung flat panel LCD. I can sit at both for a long time and not notice anymore eye strain from one to the other. The important thing with a flat panel is to pick one out that is very bright when maxed out. You can always darken the screen with adjustment, but some flat panels are too dark even on the highest bright setting. My parents Samsung is real nice.

Personally I can't stand 'em, buy a nice high quality 19" monitor instead :)

I you want something easy on the eyes, go all out. Get yourself a video converter and plug your computer into a 60 inch projection TV. Mitsubishi, Toshiba, and Hitachis are all nice. Then you can sit on a big fat couch with a cordless keyboard. Your eyes will thank you.

I think I have read somewhere that LCD are easier on the eyes and cause less fatigue, and from personal experience I do feel that is the case. This is coming from a guy that sits in front of the computer probably 10+ hours a day.

Technically an LCD should be easier on the eyes since it doesn't "blink" it just refreshes. I have heard that is easier on the eyes but i suppose it is just personal preference.

well, from my experience, flat screen is almost like staring at a painting. so it causes almost no eyestrain. But a nice monitor with a high refresh rate won't cause too much eyestrain either.

well from personal expereince i think LCDs specially newer ones at XGA+ are much sharper/brighter and easier to see than CRT`s, and are a less strain on the eyes as they dont flicker at all

The crisper the better.... I think CRT is the way to go... Screw desk space, buy another desk! hehe :)

I like the pristine, glassy look of say a nice Trinitron monitor, but LCD screens are softer on my eyes. I dont readjust or squint my eyes while looking at the LCD....however, it is annoying that you can't see everything from different angles.

I would say a tube is better then LCD any day of the week due to refresh rate alone and not to mention Black grills

Most LCD's atleast those by Mitshubishi/Nec come in black. LCD's use to suck for gaming, but times have changed..

It's not about desk space and it's not that i have a thing with tubes. my 17 incher is fine for what i do now. but my eyes are pretty sensitive and the last time i spent more than 5 hours straight on this monitor, my eyes were hurting like hell. I'd like have my vision when i get old...
