good prices on the dells. my 2005fpw i cant even tell its not a crt. ask any of the members here with one.. i cant get any blur or anything. its just like a crt with its 12ms response. its gray-gray but someone said that this is more important than the other standards because its one of the most neglected.

but its obvious that it is an improvement over pretty much every other lcd i've ever seen, response time that is. i consider it one of the 'new gen' lcds. also, give widescreen 1 day and you'll be hooked. you wont be able to STAND those ugly squares any longer.

I think the current batch of 16 ms or better LCDs (all 3 you mentioned are that fast) is good enough for gaming.

But, I have seen a few people complain about CS:Source and ghosting if they have mouse sensitive set to the highest and spin really quickly. Personally I don't notice any ghosting in HL2 or Farcry anyway. I love my 2005fpw.

i play with 3 sens but i will be moving around fast. using reflexs iono it just seems like paying the same armount for a crt is gonna be a waste. i just cant decide. i want the lcd as far as looks think weight. i want the crt for performance, no ghosting, and superbright mode.

well get a CRT if you want. I love my 2001. heck if you dont like it then sell it on ebay

also there is no such thing as a 2001 fpW. the "w" obviously stands for widescreen

I was just in this situation. I was choosing between the 2001FP, 2005FPW, or a 22" CRT. In the end, for what I do, the CRT was the best choice. I had the desk space, I wanted the best image quality, and a top end CRT still outperforms even the best LCD's in everything but possibly text. I was getting about the same price on all three, and I went the with the NEC 22" Diamondtron. I've had it for a few days and I must say it has better IQ than I've ever seen.

I now run my desktop @ 1600 x 1200 @ 100hz, and I was just playing some Morrowind @ 2048 x 1536 @ 85hz in one of the "Superbright" modes...

If you already have a high end CRT, then go with the 2005FPW.

I actually sold a 22" Iiyama HM204DT to get the 2005fpw. Perhaps I'm a tad unstable? ;) lol

I don't think the image quality is any worse now though. One of the main reasons is I'm moving to the UK next year, and it is a heck of a lot easier to bring the 2005fpw with I guess.

I wasn't trying to say LCD image quality was bad, it just not quite as good as a high end CRT...other than in text. It's well known that LCD's can't handle dark colors/scenes anywhwere near the level of even a mid range CRT, and even the fastest response time panels are still well below a CRT. Generally, general 2D will be better on a LCD, but 3D and DVD's will generally be better on a decent CRT. Also, with CRT's, there is no worrying about dead pixels, or other anomolies like that "screen door effect" some 2001FP's had.

It really boils down to which is better for the person. I'm planning on getting a LCD in the future too, but I think I'll wait for even better panels to come out, and the prices to drop even more. It's a fact though that with NEC/Mitsubishi discontinuing their CRT's, there is almost no more choices for a high end AG CRT.

Actually I've had dead pixels before on a couple of crt's. Some 19's I bought over 5 years ago had a couple of dead pixels on them so I had to return them. As for the best gaming lcd I'd have to say the 19" sony hs94p is the best right now. It has great response time (12 ms) and I think has the sweet spot for resolution (1280x1024) as with a fast computer you can have AA and AF all the way up and still have super fast framerates with any game and amazing visual quality. It has the most crt-like appearance out of all the lcd's I've seen as it has a glass screen in front of it. I upgraded to it from a 21" sony g500 crt and can say there's no way I could go back to a crt again. I also play cs:source on it everyday and it's absolutely gorgeous. There is very slight ghosting but it's so minor you don't notice it unless you're actively looking for it. It will be a while before lcd's completely eliminate ghosting but they're definitely not bad now and their advantages outweigh their disadvantages imho.

How can a CRT have dead pixels? Wouldn't it be just a dirty glass or something blocking part of the gun? How can a single electron gun not display a single pixel?

Either way, I love my 21" CRT but can't wait to get a LCD. I will probably get a 2005FPW sometime in the near future (4 monthes or so) as they are beautiful to game on and are much easier on the eyes in the long run. I am, however, VERY happy with my CRT, I just get tired of hauling it's 75 lb butt all over the place for lan games... ;)

I'm wondering (for all of you dell owners) how are Dell's exchange policies, and if you have a dell store (i have one in Orland Park IL), if you can return it there?

I'm not sure if you can go to a store... I live in IL, but I just did it all over the phone.

They have a zero dead pixel policy (well a 100% satisfaction policy). If it has even 1 dead pixel you can send it back for an exchange. In my case I had a weird backlight issue, so I returned mine for that reason.

i wish there was clean cut winner but there isnt one. i think i might get an lcd considering 65.7 pounds is alot for the crt i want. plus i go to lan parties and bring my comp to my friends house. i dont know if i am strong enought to hold that kinda weight without braking my back :D

this is what i want in the lcd
no motion blur
good quality
good res 1600x1200
black
no dead pixels

pretty much the best for playing games the number one game i will be playing is cs:s and cs 1.6 nothing to big like doom 3

crt seems like the best for me considering
no dead pixels.
no ghosting.
nice ress.
superbright mode.

the only thing that is holding me back is the weight. i weight about 110 and am 5-5 i dont know if i could pick this crap up. i dont want my dad have to help me everytime considering he wont be always there. also how come cpl players dont use lcd if people say they are so good. cpl only use crt at the momment and i think i should go with what cpl uses. another idea i was thinking abot was dual 17in displays. that would be pretty tight. since a 19in crt i think big it would be the same size as a 19crt. is dual the way to go for gaming. i think it would be cool to have 2 boxs open like that but there would always be a space. in the middle not helping and ifi got 2 17in the top res would only be like 1280x1240 so iono what to do. performance is tugging me in the back saying get the crt. than lightwait and good enough performance is tugging me in the back to. my friends lcd is very nice he has no dead pixels weight like 20pounds its a samsung vga 25ms i havent seen any ghosting yet but he also only plays cs 1.6 and cs:source and warcraft, also he has a 9600xt. what should i do? what would be a good idea since i kinda like them both would to get a lcd now and than get a crt and when i go to lans i bring lcd but when i use at home i got my crt. but that is gonna be alot of money. do any cpl members use lcd? because when ever i see them in videos at lan places theya re always using crt but i know those arent theres. can anyone tell me how many cpl members use lcd and what kind? alot of people told me to get an lcd and i wont regredit but i think i will considering a crt is better in performance.
