my powerbook hasnt been off for any amount of time in 2 weeks. Apple recommends that you do not shut it down, in fact. I love the fact that OSX's sleep takes about 2 seconds to recover from

i ran it all night w/o problems, but if ur sleeping and the led blinks (hdd) it's pretty bright hahaa.. anyway I got a USB cooling pad under it.. the one with 3 fans, search for notebook cooling pad, it keeps the bottom a bit cooler so you dont have to worry about a over heated hdd

I've been running my Dell Inspiron 8200 24/7 for almost a year without a problem. The only reason I turn it off is to transport it. BTW, I close the lid if I'm not going to use it for a few hours. It doesn't seem to make as big a difference as you would think heat wise.

My laptop currently has a 19 day uptime (running Gentoo Linux), I've had 40+ day uptimes with no problems. ACPI works fine so the fan speeds up when it gets hotter. I've ran emerge xfree86 over night and it still runs fine now =)
