The KDS Avitron 195 was advertised as featuring a Sony Trinitron tube. Not some licensed derivitive like SonicTron or DiamondTron, and not just a "aperture grille monitor"(all of which are Trinitron based). It contained a genuine built by Sony Trinitron tube. Purchasing B-grade tubes is how they attract buyers while at the same time keeping down price. They can advertise a FD Trinitron monitor, without having to design or build the tube, at a cut-rate price. Stand one next to a genuine Sony and you'll see why.
As I understand it DiamondTron and I think SonicTron also are not licensed from Sony. At least in Mitsubishi's case they came up with it on their own (they have at least one if not more patents on DiamondTron). Granted it was largely taken from Trinitron, but I am pretty positive they did not license it from Sony.
Do you have any sources on KDS buying grade B tubes? I figured they just got (purchased or made) lower quality ones instead of guying Sony rejects. Though if they were buying grade Bs it wouldn't shock me.
But I have no disagreements that KDS are inferior to Sony and Mitsubishi tubes. Its easy to see the difference. Its just hard to find out if the difference is due to the tubes themselves being lower quality, or other elctronics in the monitor or a combinatin of both. Its the same thing with most companies that use Diamondtron tubes. Pretty much all of them are inferior to the ones actually made by Mitsubishi.
