The KDS Avitron 195 was advertised as featuring a Sony Trinitron tube. Not some licensed derivitive like SonicTron or DiamondTron, and not just a "aperture grille monitor"(all of which are Trinitron based). It contained a genuine built by Sony Trinitron tube. Purchasing B-grade tubes is how they attract buyers while at the same time keeping down price. They can advertise a FD Trinitron monitor, without having to design or build the tube, at a cut-rate price. Stand one next to a genuine Sony and you'll see why.

As I understand it DiamondTron and I think SonicTron also are not licensed from Sony. At least in Mitsubishi's case they came up with it on their own (they have at least one if not more patents on DiamondTron). Granted it was largely taken from Trinitron, but I am pretty positive they did not license it from Sony.

Do you have any sources on KDS buying grade B tubes? I figured they just got (purchased or made) lower quality ones instead of guying Sony rejects. Though if they were buying grade Bs it wouldn't shock me.

But I have no disagreements that KDS are inferior to Sony and Mitsubishi tubes. Its easy to see the difference. Its just hard to find out if the difference is due to the tubes themselves being lower quality, or other elctronics in the monitor or a combinatin of both. Its the same thing with most companies that use Diamondtron tubes. Pretty much all of them are inferior to the ones actually made by Mitsubishi.

I've used and still use KDS monitors both the VS and AviTron lines, and in 17-19 sizes, all work excellent and have very good image quality with good video adapters. The Avitron is the aperature grille with low DPI 0.24 I believe - good for graphics design and gaming in my opinion. The VS is better for working with office-type apps or for reading text IMO. Ultimately all monitors regardless of brand/type will eventually break at some point, but my KDS monitors have been used for nearly 4+ years.

I forgot to mention I had to take back 4 19" KDS trinitrons back to Best Buy because they had brown in one corner.

I think KDS stands for Krappy Display System.

They are the emachine of the monitor industry. If you want a big monitor for a cheap price and don't want to spend a lot of money they are appealing, but remember you get what you pay for.

My 19" KDS looks just fine.

If you expect it to look like a top of the line monitor, then you need to get your head checked out. They work very well for exaclty what they were designed for, the cheap people like me. I won't spend $400 on a monitor when I can get a decent enough one for $200. If you don't like em, don't buy em, but if you want the cheapest with decent quality, KDS does just fine for most.

There are MUCH worse out there than KDS. AOC, Cybervision, CTX and more. If someone on a budget needs a decent monitor, I would recommend a KDS.

I agree about AOC...yuck.

No experience with Cybervision but I remember an old 15" CTX I had years ago. I must have found a diamond in the rough because not only did it look good it worked fine for me for a couple of years. I gave it away to a friend when I upgraded to my first 17"

I love Samsung monitors. The wife and kid are using the 753DF (17") monitors and they are great! I recently purchased my mom a Samtron 76DF (I think it was) from Sams club. Come to find out, that is the same as the Samsung 753DF just in a different case and with the Samsung wholesale name on them. It looks great, too. I had a 955DF for a few days but I wasn't happy with the quality. Can't remember exactly what was wrong but I think it was just that specific monitor was a lemon. I was going to swap it out for the same model when I returned it to Bestbuy but they were out. Wound up getting a Viewsonic A90f and have been very pleased. What looked like crap to me were the 19" MAG monitors they had. Talk about poor color! Perhaps it was just the feed and/or lighting in use at the store but they just didn't look good.

been using a 19" Avitron for nearly two years now and we use it extensively for gaming and digital photography (serious graphics). for me, it's easy on the eyes and gives me the ability to adjust the colors, hues, contrast and pitch quite a bit. Best recommendation is to view several monitors side by side at the stores and pick for yourself.

they have a good warrenty, and offer extremely high end products in the middle range. I'm putting together another system and will seriously look at the KDS again.

Had 3 KDS V.S. monitors die on me one after the other. So far the replacement is working good, and they were fast to send me the first replacement (too bad it died the next day though).

I would recomment it if you're on a budget.

I have a 19" KDS that's working fine for me. It was already a refurb to start with, and it's been about a year now with no problems...

Ive had a 17" KDS AV-7TF for about a year, and no problems yet whatsoever. I have a 19" Samsung 955DF in the basement hooked up to a dead PC, but Im too lazy to switch them

I've got a KDS-VS195 I bought at Costco about 3 years or so ago. I've had fantastic luck with it, no problems at all.

1600x1200 desktop has a bit of "fuzzy-ness" but I never run my Desktop that high anyhow.

I really like it, and if they come out with a cheap 21" version at Costco or Wal-Mart, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
