Quite a while after the product launch it seems like you can't get these drives anywhere.

Was it a paper launch?

How long till any of them are released? (I know the server version is later).

Regards,

They're probably only being sold to laptop makers and other system integrators at the moment. Last I heard, retail availability won't come until October.

Are you that eager to buy a $500-$600 80GB drive?

vaporware means that intel talks about them being "in development" but never actually creates any or releases any to the market. Paper lunch means lunching a product as soon as it is ready, instead of spending WEEKS just stockpiling large amounts in warehouses and telling stores to NOT put it up for sale but wait while they are shipping them to all stores, and then all put it on the shelves at the same time. I personally prefer a paper lunch, it means that if you are lucky enough you can get a product weeks before you would be otherwise.

Intel SSD are neither.

None of these stores have them in stock just yet. It is still another 2-5 weeks approximately prior to them having it and being able to ship to you.

My birthday is in mid October,... perfect timing if any of you weren't sure what to get me ;)

i thought they had them in stock. in that case it isn't vaporware, it is a paper lunch.

yea looks like it. im betting the day they hit the market they will all end up selling out inside a day or 2 from enthusiast nuts with cash to burn buying them up in pairs lol. im not buying one myself until they hit about $1/gig which is where the velociraptor is now

ed: CDW has them listed on their page with one of the 80GB ones listed as available in 1-3 days, and the other 2 as "call"
