Are indian tech companies into kickbacks?

So I have a situation where somebody is just so balls-deep into a proposal by an Indian tech company that it has my spider senses tingling. I mean he's just completely discounting any of the other vendors/proposals to the point that it's making me really suspicious.

While I've never had an indian (or any other) tech company bribe me...I'm imagining that if I had ever said "scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" they might have considered it.

Anyone?

Many companies are into rewarding by referrals.
Of course, it's a kickback if this guy isn't being upfront about it.
If the company is dishonest, too, they might conceal that they are doing business with him.
I'd say do an investigation. Contact the company as a third person, see if they are interested in kicking back some money to you if you successfully award them a contract/purchase.

It's a hairy situation...the guy is well connected in the company. Even if I'm right, he might not even go down for it unless proven (like on videotape or something)

What I think I'll do is once we get closer to the contract signing suggest that the CFO get involved in the final negotiations. That way it's well known that he was pushing this vendor and not me, and he's gotta expose himself if it ever comes out.

anything is possible, which is why we have the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Does India have something comparable or is it pretty much considered "cost of doing business"...

My boss is friends with the head of sales of a vendor we work with.

He doesn't try to hide his glaring and obvious bias towards them. Then, when the vendor fucks up, he tries to find ways to blame it on his employees.

That's an intelligent move. Hopefully he will be involved closely enough to figure out soemthing is up if indeed the guy is taking a kickback.

Similar situation here....in the blame area.

Indian Outsourcing Company, guy brought in at previous company, and now at this company. Major contracts awarded.

Indian Outsourcing Company "referred" this Indian SAAS company, another huge contract being looked at.

On-shore companies being pooh-poohed. Doesn't even want me to talk to ANY other vendors.

Probably $50 million on the table, it just smells bad...

Looks like you're in the classic "Cheney" situation. No way to win that, unless you blow up the Death Star.
Luke, use the force and run, run to Dagobah, run to Dagobah.
