Are IDE CD Recorders any good?

I'm thinking of getting an 8X or 10X and I see that a lot of companies are selling fast IDE burners. All my burners have always been SCSI. Any experiences with these newer IDE drives?

Thanks

They generally work fine. I haven't had any problems, anyway, but my drive is only a 4x.

But if you already have a SCSI subsystem in your computer I would consider sticking with SCSI, unless the price difference is too great for your wallet. Otherwise the IDE drives are perfectly fine.

I've had an Acer 4x and now I have an HP9100 8x. I cant really recommend the Acer, but I've had nothing but good experience from the HP. No coasters and fast. Thats all I have experience with.

The time when IDE burners sucked was relatively short, and now aside from the CPU utilization associated with the interface (which is becoming more and more negligable) there is no difference between ide and scsi.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm kinda getting tired of my 4X I have now, so I was thinkin about getting an 8X or 12X. I'll check and see what kind of reviews are out there for IDE burners.

I personally love my Plextor 8432. Its burned a few coaster here and there but I account that to the software I was using and some ohter funky problems.

Absolutely no problems with my Plextor 8432 IDE burner. No coasters....yet, and managed to burn an audio CD while surfing the net at same time...I was impressed

IDE burners have worked great for me. I had a Acer 2x2x6x that worked great, no coasters. My 6x4x24x also works without a problem.
I just leave the PC alone while burning a CD>
