Are godaddy SSL certificates reliable?

I'm looking for a good wildcard SSL certificate for our website. Godaddy's prices seem to be the cheapest of the lot. I wanted to know if this would be a case of "You get what you pay for" or are places like Thawte, etc. just charging a crapload because they're big names in this? 🙂

Why wouldn't they be? They're class 2 certs that are in the root stores on pretty much all major browsers.

Might want to check StartSSL as well... they sell wildcard certs that appear to be a LOT cheaper than Godaddy (even with discounts).

Interesting...StartSSL's stuff is really inexpensive, though the verification process sounds really annoying.

I use Godaddy's SAN certs and single-domain certs extensively and they've worked very well. Godaddy's root cert is present in almost all mobile devices, so it's great to use for Exchange servers.

I wonder if StartSSL's root certs are in most mobile stores.

Validation wasn't hard, at least for the class 1 I got. It was really just domain and email validation - which they go by the registrant information on the domain name.

The class 2 and 3 might require a bit of physical documentation, which is actually a little more comforting than what GoDaddy did for me. But with GoDaddy, I registered my domains there, so they already knew who I was in the first place.

As far as the root stores, I know that StartCOM is in Android, IE, Chrome, Safari and Firefox, and that's all I really care about.
