Are firewire cards all the same?

I see that firewire cards are sold for a wide variety of prices. Is there something people look for in buying a firewire card, or are they all the same?

For the most part, yes.

The more expensive ones may be firewire2 which is 800 Mbps. I prefer Ti based cards although the VIA ones haven't given me any fits.

another thing to look into is based on the chipsets/manufacture of the card..... example.. a card made by intel may be more compatiablie with a wide varity of OS's/hardware and have more support via the web compare to a card made by xyz... the xyz card may only work with 1 or 2 OS's and since its a small company = probably wont have driver updates and offer por support. you may even have a hard time getting it up and running.
