Are fat/hairy people warmer in the winter than skinny/hairless people?

My stupid question of the day.

Actually, I think that hairy people are a bit warmer, because I've gone bald once and it was chilly up there.

But people joke about fat people having an extra layer fat on them to keep them warm. Dunno if that's true or not since I'm all skin and bones.

something like 80% of your body heat is relaed from your head so if you want to stay warm fat or skinny wear a hat.

your body loses heat from the top of your head so if you are bald it won't matter how fat you are.

i personally think heavier people are warmer than thin people. the people closest to me who are heavy are always hotter than me (i'm 5-11 185 lbs). some are downright hot. a good friend of mine keeps the heat off at night unless it gets below freezing.

well, I am extremely skinny (5'10" and 120lbs) and I am always cold. I am comfortable around 72-75 degrees, and can still be "comfortable" as high as 82 or so. As soon as the temp drops below 70 tho, I am freezing. Man, there is nothing I hate more than being cold... Brrrrr! (so why in the world do I ski??)

well people with less hair are definitely colder than people with hair... just shave your head now and see for yourself ;)

In a resting state I don't think fat% has much influence on how you perceive temperature. But more fat does insulate the body and probably gives more protection against hypothermia, again in a resting state. I'd say that there are other factors that have way more influence on how hot you feel than being fat.

well, actually i meant hair on other parts of the body.
i guess if it applies to hair on the head, it applies to hair elsewhere.

the fat/skinny aspect is interesting.
but u do notice that the fat guy on your team in bball perspires more than the rest ;)

Hell, I'm fat and I run out to start my truck in -40F temps across the parking lot. Of course, that could just be the psycho in me coming out...

The fat guy on the baseball team sweats more than anyone else because he's expending more effort to do the same thing as everyone else.

I grew a goatee over the summer, and this year my face has been quite a bit warmer than normal. So yeah, hair most definitely keeps people warm.
