Are fast food joints require to wear gloves?

What's really nasty is when they wipe their face or wipe off food on the seat of their pants, then continue fixing food without washing or changing gloves.
Some of the sandwich shops I've seen wear gloves, the gloves are so old looking, they've obviously had them on all day.

I'd almost rather that they didn't wear gloves, since they don't get changed often. Most times I see gloves, they are used to protect the user from stuff, not the customer. If they didn't wear gloves, they'd wash their hands more often to get all the crap off of them!

I went to Del Taco yesterday and the one who was preparing food didn't. Kinda gross. Imagine she sneezes, and continue working.

Correct. You are probably better off if they don't wear gloves. If someone gets chicken juice or grease on their hands, they'll probably wash them. If they get that stuff on gloves they'll just keep going.

I worked at a Canadian McDonalds for a year and a half. I never, EVER used gloves. They wern't available to us to use in the first place. If you had an open wound on your finger, you were sent home. No finger bandages allowed.

You should see the fvcking scars on my hands from the goddamn grills and deep-friers. The press-grill (Sheet of teflon-coated metal pressing the meat against another sheet of metal at 450 degrees) wrecked my knuckles.

In Washington state I believe they are required, but not all the time. For example, at the pizza place where I worked we didn't have to wear gloves preparing the pizzas (although everyone did anyway) because the oven would kill any bacteria that came from our hands.

Now if someone is preparing food that will not be cooked, and has no gloves, I think that would be illegal in many places.

Here in Ohio, all food prep workers have to wear gloves and hats or hair nets; I don't know of any exceptions, but there probably are some.

When I'm working in one of the school concession stands or something, I'm always throwing away my gloves and getting new ones... it would be so much easier if I could just leave the gloves off, and frequently wash my hands. I guarantee my hands would be cleaner that way.

Ive seen restaurants with no soap in the bathrooms.

In my experience, people rarely clean their hands. Maybe once a shift or something.

No ones bringing up the other problem. Mixing food types. For example, you could pick up a raw chicken breast and put it on a grill, make a salad aor sandwhich, and never change gloves. People would be amazed if thewy knew what they were eating.

Don't even think about what irritated cooks will puposely do to people's food. I saw things that made me almost get sick when I worked at a restaurant.
