Are fast food joints require to wear gloves when they prepare food?
I went to Del Taco yesterday and the one who was preparing food didn't. Kinda gross. Imagine she sneezes, and continue working.

No. 4-yrs of BK the only time I wore gloves was to make salads... and that wasn't all the time.

I don't think so. It's required that they wash their hands, but gloves are a franchise-to-franchise decision.

Depends on state and even further down the line, to county/city level.

Ive worked in a variety of restaurants and fast food and ive never seen mandatory glove usage. I see salad makers grab all the ingredients by their hands.

Subway is the only one I know of that requires gloves.

If you notice, the places where the food being prepared is visible to customers, the places where gloves.

And what you dont notice is that where places where food is prepared in a kitchen not visible to customers, which is just about everywhere, gloves are usually not worn.

I was going to raise that point as well, but then I remembered that when I worked at Subway, I had to wear gloves even when I was chopping veggies in the back. So Subway is pretty good about that all around. But in general, I think you're right.

The last time I went to Jack in the Box, which will always be my last (not just for this reason), the girl that worked the register and took my money went back to help fix my food, stuffing the pita w/ her bare hands, no washing in between. Not the first time I've seen crap like that there too. And their food is the worst I've ever had; worse than White Castle.

I went to a Penn Station East Coast Subs where a girl did the same thing - took my money, made my sandwich, no wash, no gloves.

And some places just put their hands under the faucet for 1 second, which doesn't get them fully clean.

As far as the law is concern, NO.

The usage of gloves give you a false sense of sanitariness.
Most people who use gloves to make food use them improperly anyway.
They keep them on forever instead of discarding them so often.

But seriously, I always tell people if you're that paranoid about germs and such, don't eat out.
How many of us go to a fastfood, pay for the food with the dirty money and then use our hands to eat right afterward.

The only way to be 100% germ free is to cook at home.

So true.

So often i see them take cash with their gloves on...which defeats the purpose entirely.

At least w/o gloves, they usually wash their hands between taking money & making food.
