As with other animals, if you're a breeder, you don't sell the eggs that your bred stock produces. If you're not a breeder, you don't have any roosters, so no fertilization. If you get a fetus in an egg from your farmer, you need to be having a conversation with him/her.
It's funny, because, some 30+ years ago, I cracked open a grocery store egg into the pan and got a fetus. One other egg out of that dozen had a twins in it.
Granted 30+ years ago, grocery store eggs were probably alot closer to "farm fresh" back then.

So?

Did you eat it?

Taste like...baby chicken?

Inquiring minds.

LOL whoops, forgot to add, no, non of us did. I had to be under 12 years old, I remember yelling for my mom to come see this, we wound up cracking the whole dozen. One other egg had what looked like it would've been twins, the first one though was well established and looked like a chick.

You two are really gross. Why would you eat something that shit comes out of? You wouldn't eat shit would you?

They are cleaned thoroughly. You understand innards make up a large portion of an animal right? Why would you let it go to waste?

"Better" is somewhat subjective as it depends on what one is using the eggs for. If we're talking hard-boiled then older eggs are better and there's not much sense in paying more. On the other hand a good souffle or other items that require the most volume of beaten eggs? Then the freshest are local and then I'll spend two bucks for a dozen. If I want luminous pasta I'll splurge too as the egg yolks are a brighter yellow and with best quality durum semolina I can roll out pasta that most people never experience in their lives. You won't find better in the best restaurants.

What about the eggs they serve at breakfast at hotels? Scramble and hard boil
