As for the whole putting the seat down, yeah, I do it. Mythbusters confirmed awhile ago that whenever you flush a western toilet, it basically unleashes a cloud of bacteria and faecal matter across your bathroom. Putting the lid down contains that literal shit storm to the bowl instead of your thoothbursh.

They're pretty common across Asia. Plenty of stories of tourists and new immigrants who have broken western style toilets trying to squat on top of them.

I have a male roomate and I always pee sitting down because I don't feel like cleaning up piss every time I go to the bathroom. Even if I aim my stream perfectly into the middle of the bowl, piss gets on the rim and the toilet seat and the floor. I can see the droplets flying up out of the toilet. Gross.

Do you guys that pee standing up clean up the piss afterward, or do you just leave it there to age and turn interesting colors?

The worst thing I had to clean when we bought our house was the bathroom used by the kids. The boy was about 10 years old and the quantity of crusted piss around the toilet seat bolts was incredible.

I sit at night so I don't have to worry about aiming while half asleep.
