Finance, marketing and accounting are always good majors. IT is terrible. CS is alright. Seems like Civil engineering is hiring, but my roommate is a ChemE and hes having a hell of a hard time finding an internship. EE/ECE is a decent choice as almost all employers at our college career fairs are looking for firmware engineers or hardware design. You can also go into technical marketing. Anyone can pick up a book and program/write code but not everyone can design chips or layout a PCB or design a system around a microprocessor. I mean, Mechanical and Chemical seem to be good fields but it doesn't seem like theres many jobs for them right now. All the liberal arts majors that graduated ahead of me in high school are all back in the same town workign at restaurants and either living in small apartments or back with their parents....

Yup..I went to college to learn, and I majored in history and minored in philosophy at a private liberal arts college. I think my liberal arts education made me a much more intellectually well-rounded person, rather than just concentrating on one area that would get me a job. The responses on this board will be skewed towards areas that the posters think are "practical", like science, since this is a computer tech board.

Tell your brother to pick a major that he is passionate about and can flourish in, rather than majoring in something just so he can get a job.

I gotta agree with this. I was a computer sicence major, as I was into computers and I really wanted a technical field for the job market but I hated it. Majoring in stuff you dont like wont do you any good if fail out of college or get horrible grades. I am no a PoliSci major, and I actually do enjoy it... As for the job market, I have no idea... but I will adapt.
