How many of you eat eggs? I eat them all the time (well, quite a bit), but am wondering if there was ever a connection drawn between eggs and health problems. There was stuff about cholesterol awhile back, but I never heard if it was actually proven.

cholesterol is really high in eggs. there is a little fat but as long as you don't eat a lot of fat in other things it isn't going to hurt. but i guess same goes for cholesterol.

overall i would say they aren't bad for you...but i wouldn't go eating 4 a day or anything.

The white part is better for you than the yolk.

You could seperate the yolk or just take a little bit of yolk out.

There is also fake egg products.

They have lots of protein, but also lots of cholesterol.
If you only eat the white part (actually called the white) I think you can pretty much eat as much as you want and it's not bad for you.
If you eat the yolk (the yellow part), then you really shouldn't eat a whole lot of them.

Powdered eggs are absolutely horrible. Used to go to the school cafeteria for breakfast and had to deal with watching them being served to poor innocent students hehe.

the yolk is the only part that is bad for you. it contains a high level of LDL cholestorol (bad cholestorol), which has a very low density. the low density allows the choestorol to be stuck in your blood vessels, causing a clot or build up of cholestorol which can ultimately cause a heart attack/stroke. the white part is okay and it has a lot of protein but at the same time, you have to think about what you're frying them in. that also contains cholestorol so think about how bad it would be if you fried them in oil and had the yolk.

my 2 cents.

Not at all. if you're a healthy person the cholesterol in them won't matter.

I eat several eggs a week and I'm health....*urk* *clunk*

In all seriousness, I eat my fair share of chicken fetuses and my blood pressure/cholesterol are optimal.

Yes, eggs are "bad" for you. They are high in saturated fat, and cholesterol. Try Egg Beaters. You get more sodium (unfortunately) but the fat is gone, the cholesterol is removed, and you get all that great protein. They're more expensive, although if you buy in bulk (Sam's Club, for example) they aren't bad at all price-wise. I use Egg Beaters in my recipes and eat 'em for breakfast.

I don't care what the government "recommends". 270mg of cholesterol is almost an entire days' "recommended" cholesterol intake in a single egg. Think about that the next time you crack one on the frying pan. :D

If it weren't for the cholesterol, an egg would be good since it has just 5 grams of fat and 71 calories.

The only health risks I'm aware of relating to eggs is getting them out from under an angry chicken. They look cute and fluffy, but they can really scratch you up. :)

The Great Dietary Cholesterol Myth:
Eggs are bad because they have cholesterol. Back billions of years ago someone came to the conclusion that a high blood cholesterol level is bad. This is correct. The press (as usual with scientific studies) screwed up the meaning of the study and popularized the idea that since shrimp, eggs and other things have cholesterol, they are bad. This is incorrect. Dietary cholesterol is very poorly absorbed. That didn't stop MD's reading the articles and not the research. Physicians started to recommend that people avoid certain foods because of cholesterol content. Now it is true that many foods high in cholesterol are fatty. THIS leads to higher cholesterol levels. As a side note, I remember the originators of the initial study going around trying to correct this misconception, and getting no press, because "everyone knows high cholesterol foods cause high cholesterol". Go figure. :D

Eggs are good for you, its the combination os saturated fats and high cholesterol intake taht will raise the LDL . ALot of powerlifters and other athletes eat like a dozen a day. Becuase the protein in Eggs is the best possible naturally, with a 100 BV value. And since the best health benfit is in the egg just throw out the yolk. I'll usually eat one whole egg and 5or so just whites.

Eggs are a gateway food. Once you start eating eggs, then you then start eating foods with more fat, with more cholesterol. Next thing you know, you have a heart attack. DON'T EAT EGGS!
