Are Dell Laptops good enough?

To compare with other company, Dell's laptop price is a bit cheaper than others.
How is it? (lattitude) does it have bright screen? good sound quality?

Im thinking of buying a Dell's one for my next Laptop!

For general use, go with a Dell. I have a P3 latitiude that i love. Not bloaqted with crap like emachines and others.

save yourself a headache and get an IBM.... you'll thank me later.

About the laptops, yes, they might be cheaper, but on average, the physical case building of them is shoddy at best. IBM laptops are a favorite here not necessarily because they're the fastest, but because they are a tank. An extra 2% speed advantage in Office because you're running X speed processor on Y video card does not balance out the 0% productivity when the lappy dies.

One of the most notable things about many Dell laptops is that the screen hinges tend to wear out or break too soon.

Think Honda Civic vs Dodge Viper. Sure, one's a lot cheaper and they both do the same job, and tweaking that engine might make them equally fast, but the difference is quality. Style has a little bit to it as well 🙂

There's a reason the Viper is $80kish and the Civic is $10kish, and it's not because one is American made and the other is foreign made.

If you're really on a budget, buy used.
(Wrong forum, by the way.)

And IBM's tech support is in Atlanta as opposed to Bangladore, India....

the new dell 700m looks pretty spiffy (the 12" widescreen small laptop). other than that the other ones look kind of clunky and not built very well.

No. Get a Toshiba if you're on a budget.

one of my laptop whore of a friend has nothing but bad things to say about dell laptops.

OTOH, every single company bought laptop at my work is a dell and they seem to be holding up ok.

I would get an IBM over a dell...but i would aslo get a powerbook over an IBM...

even though i hate apple i love their powerbooks for the stuff i do when using a lap top...great for editing websites and writing notes and things on the run..

i don't know about dell, but i did work for toshiba , ibm and hp and in order (building, upgrading and imaging), i would place toshiba and ibm @ the top for build quality, and i would avoid hp-compaq.

get a dell. with their 750 off 1500 coupons you can get fully loaded ones for cheap.

ibm are the best. but the cheapest ones are around $2000.

I've seen Dells go to Iraq and back with zero problems.

Only buy a Dell if you know you're getting a deal, such as the $750 off 1500 coupon, or the military discounts . . . otherwise you're paying too much.

I bought the Inspiron 8500 2 years ago. I got it with a 2.2Ghz P4, 1 Gig of Ram and a 64MB Nvidia Go Graphics card. The only problem I've had is with the power adapter. I managed to break the pin where the power plugs into the laptop. I had to order a replacement. Other than that it's been a great laptop.

I have heard that the Home Warranty is crap. If you really want good stuff, buy from the small business area. Supposedly the warranty and service places are in the US as opposed to India, and they put more effort into the Latitudes and Precisions (I think?).
