are credit card companies actually doing their jobs?

Only time I ever had anything flagged, it was a bunch of small Apple iTMS purchases. (Like 5 or 6 <$20).

It was actually fraud, though.

So it seems like they're doing a good job to me.

i ordered a laptop recently and had discovercard block the charge until i confirmed with them(fraud protection kicked in). my mom went on a vegas trip a little while ago and had the credit card charge denied for the hotel bill(fraud protection again). the hotel charge was barely $100. I could understand a $1000+ laptop being flagged, but $100?

did some kind of legislation pass that makes it harder for creditcard companies to write off or pass on the losses? i dont remember them being this absurdly persnickety on purchases. i've charged all kinds of more expensive purchases in years past.

If you don't live in Vegas and have a charge for a luxury item there, that sure as hell looks like fraud.

One thing i usually do is every few months i call them up and tell them i lost the card, that way i get a new number and lessens the potential my card info would get stolen...i just don't trust websites, so many get hacked all the time and that info usually gets sold, even though i have fraud protection, no doubt some might slip through that i would have to pay, i'd rather just avoid the possibility.

Some card companies have services that will give you one time use numbers for online purchases.
