Are CDRW's ready to use out of the box?

I got a box of 10X CDRW's. For whatever reason, I can't record onto them. I get errors in every program I use. I can do a direct CD format. Should I be able to burn to them right out of the box?

all of the CDRWs I have used have been, but I haven't used that many so I'm not sure. Try doing a format, that should fix it, and if that doesn't try burning them slower, mabey they aren't compatible with the speed you are trying

Not necessarily true. Look in the box or container to see if this are pre-formatted CDRW's. Try formatting one of them and see if you'll be able to write. Remember Direct CD should be runnng in the background or systray for the CR writer to be able to write to them.

you don't have to format a cdrw in order to write to it ie you can burn it like a normal cd & erase it when required.
you'll need to format it if you intend to drag & drop files into it with direct cd!
