Are car covers supposed to be waterproof or just water repellant?

I just tried out a car cover.. put it on, sprayed it down with a hose, and took it off. I could see that the car cover repelled a whole lot of water but it seemed like a bunch still got through. When I took the cover off the car was still pretty wet underneath...

just water repellent because it still needs to breathe, otherwise your car would get rusty underneath if it was waterproof like a tarp

Just repellant for the most part. Sometimes they are not a good idea though as they can help trap moisture which will make things rust faster. I know a guy who puts his 2000 Z28 camaro pace car inside of a bag in his garage.

So then it's all good that water can get through? I ask because I want this thing for the snow... I am sick of wiping off 2 feet of snow and 4 inches of ice off my windows every year when I go to work.. I was hoping a car cover would prevent all those mornings scraping my windshields..

Even if it helps a little it will be better then nothing...

Snow will wear it out fast I'd think. It take a ton of abuse lifting the snow off. I take it you don't have a garage because thats the best solution.

Nope, no garage.

I know it would be the best solution but from what I am up against I am hoping the cover will help.

because himid air can still get under there, and once it gets cold it will still frost.

This is why most people in the northern states have small rust spots on engine parts.
