Are "budget" Titan cards coming "any time soon" or should I just get a 660 TI?

It's about time I NEED to update my ancient 275 GTX and I am eying a 660 TI (Gigabyte probably) due to the nice cooler and good price/performance.

I am assuming that we won't see any cheaper Titan cards any time soon, or would it be stupid to get a 660 TI right now?

Titan is not a new generation, you could think of it as a GTX 685 or something. So no, they will most likely stay just as expensive, and I am not sure when the next generation of cards are coming, from either Nvidia or AMD.

Yea just get a current 7000/600 series card. I think both said there will not be any major new Gen cards this year.

I VERY much doubt we will see cheaper "Titan" versions any time soon.

GPU Conference is in two weeks though, and we might hear some GTX 700 announcements

yea everywhere is sold out and it seems wont be back in stock until end of march or later. when we bought ours we went back to compare specs and they were all out of stock. nvidia must have made some serious quick cash on these...

Do you think this was a quick "we're awesome" card to give them more time on their next generation?

It just seems odd to me that they released the 6xx series from fastest to slowest, then roll out this bad boy.

If you want a decent price to performance either get a 7970 GHz (for nice 1 monitor gaming) or get a 670 FTW if you want to stay with nvidia and don't want to spend more than 400

I think there is enough room in terms of performance between the Titan and a GTX680 for another further cut down GK110 sku (a Titan GT). No one knows if such a thing would ever even be released, and I wouldn't bet on it.

Titan should have been a next gen card, but AMD just can't compete with Titan so the prices will stay where they are.

Titan should have been released as the GTX 680, priced around $700-800. But nVidia had a large order of K20X to fill instead. And they happily (for them) found that AMD's high end cards could barely compete with their (nVidia's) mid-range card. So what should have been the GTX 670 got released as a GTX 680 and they waited with Titan until the large & lucrative supercomputer order was filled.

Titan just doesn't seem worth it, even for a triple monitor setup. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/1...-and-radeon-7970-go-head-to-head-at-5760x1080

Yeah, the price/performance ratio is hugely screwed on this card. Mainly, I think, because they are aiming at the 0.1% of gamers who want 'the best' and also selling into the research markets for GPU compute (the regular gaming cards are neutered for these uses).
