Wow! That's a lot of support for the Bimmers. I personally think they are awesome. They look great and preform great.

The M5 is my dream car.

I remember a post on another forum blasting the M3 for engine failures. There is even a site dedicated to engine failures.

Most of the stories start out..."I hit turn three doing about 135 and the engine just blew...geesh..only 40 laps into the freaking race!"

"Had her wide open throttle and before I hit the limiter in top gear, she let loose....only got it to 156!"

See a trend? These people "drive" their cars in to engine failure. All the pics of the oil soaked engines were taken at some sort of race track. I thought it was pretty funny.

Anyway. Yes. BMW is nice. A driver's car.

Wishing for orders to Germany so I can pick one up ;)

No comparison. I own a BMW and even though it's fairly old it still runs better than a Honda with the same mileage.

If you were blindfolded and placed in the passenger's seat of both a BMW and a Honda Accord, you will notice the difference.

Yes!!! BMW is a great car...

it outperforms anything in its class (near luxury sport sedan)
the competitors of the 3 series are the MB C class, audi a4, jaguar x type, lexus IS300 and infiniti g35

if you look at magazine comparisons (like car and driver) EVERY ONE ranks the 3 series higher than the rest, with the exception of the g35, but it is only because of the price factor (the editor said that performance wise, the 330 is still better than the g35)

keep in mind that a lot of the other cars (x type, a4, g35) are NEWER models compared to the 3 series, but they still can't catch the bimmer in performance wise (maybe with the exception of the g35)....... wait until BMW redesign the 3 series in 2005-6, and it will set the performance benchmark all over again

I drove a 2000 BMW 528i for a few weeks. I really wasn't that impressed. In fact, I di not like the "feel". But there are a few models that would probably make me change my mind.

Keep in mind that the base A4 can be had for only about 24k and the 27k model gets you tiptronic and quattro. I guess it depends on personal preference but I'd rather drive an automatic than a manual. You can chip the Audi too for better performance.

I don't get the point/attraction to buying the cheapest, more stripped car of a luxury brand over a fully decked out car of a middle of the road brand.

I'd much rather get the 03 Accord Coupe that has a large engine, and almost 80 more horsepower. Also, it would be much cheaper to fix and be more reliable too.

For me, it isn?t worth spending a few more grand on a badge just to pump up my ego.
