I'm not going to bother because it really doesn't matter if you believe me or not. I will say though that I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's when all you heard was REM songs on the FM stations. The BB's had a few hit albums but REM was at or near the top of the charts for about 5 years running. They had a very successful streak going for awhile with hits.
Shush and read my above post. You'er not going to bother now because I already did the work for you.

You lose.
Your links don't prove sh!t. That said, if I am wrong well it wouldn't be the first time.😉
Wait, the link that has total combined album sales, that has The Beastie Boys on it, but NOT R.E.M. doesn't prove sh!t?

To reiterate for the illiterate.

Two words - Paul's Boutique

It is a one of a kind. For it's genre it stands above all the rest. Changing laws made it an impossibility to ever top it.

Gah, am I now going to have to get into a huge debate about a Band that I really don't like? Nah, I'll concede since you guys were willing to go through the trouble to prove yourselves right. Good Job😉

so does your grammar, with a post like that teh suck > you.

You are obviously clueless as far as opinion versus reality goes. The Beastie Boys have been given laurels by even those in the business that despise this type of music. It takes a lot of balls to change a whole industry and bank that your uniqueness gets you a recording deal rather than just rehashing the passing greatest thing in a younger package.

Perhaps you should share your 'great' band list.

REM

They have about 15 - 18 mil sold compared to BB 21, so very similar. They have 3 Grammys, and they have 3 albums that went 4X Platinum (BB first album went 9X). REM has hit #1 twice, and #2 twice on Billboard.

Summary: Popularity wise the 2 are close (BB have one more #1, REM has one more Grammy), except that BB's first album is a classic at 9X platinum (REM had 7 albums and 6 years of music before the US liked them), and timeless (they still play BB songs on the radio). I rarely hear REM on the radio anymore... Also, REM wasn't a pioneer in their genre that will influence generations as much as the BB sampling with electronica, percussions, etc... Plus REM is girly music, you can rock to the BB IMO.

If you're going to call people stupid you should usually try to not include yourself while doing it.

OK thanks for doing my legwork for me🙂 I agree with you regarding their influence. Frankly I liked REM before they became commercially successful as they originally were a College Station type of band (before they became all girly)
