Are any of you typing on a notebook/laptop?

Does it get easier?

I just got my Dell Inspiron 4100 and am having a terrible time getting used to that slightly smaller keyboard.

Other than that, I really like it - even for 3D games (866Mhz P-III-M/14.1" TFT@1024x768/320MB PC-133/ATI 16MB DDR Mobility Radeon) - it will play Max Payne and DVDs without a hiccup.

<< it gets easier.. if you use it enough a normal keyboard feels weird. >>

.

Thanks for the encouragment. My notebook's modem is faster than my desktop's currently (when I upgrade my desktop's MBs next year, this ISA piece of modem gets trashed) and I am practicing anyway.

I am having to leave my desktop behind on my 10 week Hawaiian (working) vacation next month . . . this laptop is pretty nice but I can't see permanently giving up my 19" CRT.

😀

EDIT: Please forgive the spelling errors (at least now I have an excuse). I still have to "look" now when I type.

I prefer my normal keyboard, but the laptop isn't "wierd" after a few days. typing on my desktop now, but I can do ok on the laptop too.

I love typing on my laptop keyboard, but hitting the \ key instead of enter is annoying 🙁

see rig 😀

I bought a Dell Inspiron 4000 during the last MSN/Dell 20% off bonanza (November 2000) but hardly ever used it, so I sold it to someone else for a $200 profit.

I prefer having a full sized keyboard, a nice 19" monitor, a FAST 7200RPM hard drive and not worrying that I'll "leave the laptop" at the cafe, or leave it at work unattended or someone steals it.

I enjoy being paranoid but not THAT paranoid.

<< I hate typing on laptops. Actually I hate laptops, so slow and expensive >>

Actually they are almost desktop replacements now. And you can get a gaming notebook for less than $1500.

It is impossible to take my desktop to Hawaii with me for 10 weeks . . . at least now I can enjoy a GOOD movie on the flight for a change.

😀

And yes, it is getting a little better typing but I am still making mixtafes.

I have a Dell Latitude 866 that I use at work and home, I end up using it far more than my desktop pc. The keyboard doesn't bother me.

Yeah, I like my Dell 8100's keyboard. It takes some getting used to (and the pointing stick under the g and h is a little weird), but out of all the laptop keyboards I've tried (and I haven't used a Thinpad, which I hear has one of the best keyboards), I definitely like the Dell's the best. So I'm definitely happy with it. And I can type without looking for the most part, though I don't like not having the extra lage Enter key.

80% of my spelling/typos are caused by this teeney-tiny keyboard... Been using this model laptop monday-Friday for almost 2years, typos still happen alot.

Sometimes I use my TP, right now I'm using my work box (I have 3 owned by the company, and 3 owned by me) It's a POS P200 running rhumba, office 2K, NT4, and some massive excel spreadsheets...it's a little pokey.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 4090XDVD that my company gave me a couple of years back and now I go back and forth and don't see any differince except for the number pad. Its all in getting used to it. However I cant stand to use anything but a mouse for a pointing devise.

You bet. I work as a programmer and that's what I use. It was pretty weird when I first started at the company but now I don't even notice it. Using a Toshiba Tecra 8200, Pentium III, 256 MB Ram. Oh and I have a DVD player 😀.

Only complaint that I have with my ThinkPad's keyboard is that it lacks a true numeric keypad. Actually, I like the ThinkPad's keyboard more than I like most desktop keyboards with the exception of the old IBM keyboards.

i have a thinkpad that's my only pc. i use it at home and at work. never had a problem with the keyboard (but i'm a bad typer either way hehe). mine won't play fps games tho, works great for diablo2/starcraft and even quake 1 @ 1024x768.

Well, I'm typing on my Compaq Armada M700 right, but that's just because I'm tweaking/benchmarking my main system right now. I mainly use my laptop at work(doing my comp. sci homework/typing essays/watching movies😀), or when I need to help somebody fix their computer I take it to their room. Since my Armada was my main system before I built my new computer I'm pretty much used the keyboard and can type fine with it.(no problems with a regular keyboard either) I have no trouble with the pointer stick either. I do miss the numeric keypad though, especially when I am using the calculator. My laptop is only a P3 500, but it's fast enough for any divx/dvd/(s)vcd movies I might want to watch.

Well, I'm back on my desktop and I have to honestly admit I prefer it over the laptop (for everything - especially typing).

However, I am really glad I do have a notebook or I'd be lost without a computer for 10 weeks (even in Hawaii).

I also plan to dump WinME (it REALLY sux) for Win2K on the notebook . . . now I just need the drivers from Dell's web site. 🙂

I use my Thinkpad more then I use my dekstops, and DVD helps too! I hate the MS natural keyboard, that and laptop keyboards dont go well for me.
